Former elite racer here, nowadays a club roadie, occasional tester...

Love to see ladies in cycling kit - particularly enjoyed a café stop on Saturday watching a group of ladies from Skipton... One in particular had that "twinkle" in her eye...

Off to Majorca in a couple of weeks - I've gone every year since my racing days but it's evolved from a hardcore training camp into a leisurely long weekend with the lads. It also seems to get later and later every year to make the most of the better weather!

Anyone else out there this year?

Cheers. Had 3 bikes robbed from my garage a few years back worth £7k+ in total. I got two of them replaced by the insurance company, but it kind of put me off riding them because I didn’t want anyone to see them.

That's a shame, I love my bikes but always see them as a tool for a job... They're insured so I've never worried too much, and I've never had one nicked!

However, if my 'best' bike got nicked I'd be heartbroken - it was a present to myself for my 40th and to underline a very shitty few years. It's a Cervelo R5 with full Dura Ace and Dura Ace C35s. Love it!

Maybe go for something stealthy... One of my riding buddies has a matt-black Trek Madone with black Dura Ace, debadged Rovals... It never gets a second glance even though it's worth about £8 grand!

My TCR is matt black with red details. It’s more the mountain bike that worries me I guess. All the little shits are riding £2k bikes that are clearly robbed. If I ever see my old Giant Trance getting ridden around I couldn’t be held responsible for my actions.

We've cycled from home to Cap d'Agde a couple of times (with tent) with the goal of getting trim by the time we hit the beach!

You'd have spotted us a mile off - naked but with white outline of cycling clothes!

No Not doing much at the moment, "injuries"

Once we went via the EV routes along rivers and canals (longer and flat and able to hit some naturist sites on the Atlantic coast) and the second time more direct and over the hills. Both ended up 1000 miles as we did extra on the UK side.

Didn't rush but just enjoyed - brilliant trips

It was really useful for camping and wildcamping spots.

Did ride London a few years ago, was good fun. Leith Hill was clogged up, Box was a gentle pedal push it’s the hill 90 mile in that’s about 600 metres long but not what you need after 90 miles! It’s fun.

Be very careful on the descents, lots of people who aren’t used to descents or even descents in groups. Listen to the calls of ‘slowing’ and ‘stopping’. It’s the descents where the accidents happen. Best of luck. You’ll have a blast!

Gripshift should be abolished!

Try setting up V brakes and gripshift on kids bikes all day long ready for Christmas, fiddly bloody things!! Give me disc brakes any day, although I’m still to be convinced about disc on a road bike

Quite right and good for you!

I had to get two new bikes from a website as the insurance company insisted I use them,(replacing stolen) I was reluctant and since found out I could have pushed for an alternative. Anyway, on arrival the gears were all over the place. My attempts only made things worse. Took it to Newdales in Saffron Walden and booked it for a service, telling them what had happened. On collection and ready to pay, they said “no charge”. How about that!

Support local shops - we will miss them. Respect great service - only one place I will go now for all my biking needs.

Safe cycling everyone.

That is the trouble with the internet..mind you a few of the chain cycle stores are whipping bikes out of boxes...nipping up the stem..putting the front wheel and pedals on and pushing them out without PDI....ugh... one guy had to buy one via his company cycle to work thing...and ended up in my shop to be sorted...they hadn't set it up and in the end I stripped it and built it again (I'm not going to give away which so called "Brand" this was nor the shop) but they paid my time to sort this out... I work on my own bikes and those of friends but it's not a business I would want to work in.

I am sure those of you that do have every internet shopping expert in daily.

I had years on the spanners on aircraft and in motorsport and apart from building wheels I can and have the tools to do most jobs but yes I know what you mean about cheap brands and poor setup.

Strangely never a topic I expected to be discussing here.

yeah we do get the "experts" in...lol... I'm lucky that most of my business is from the mid to high end kit...albeit with the chain store specials in...ugh!... I also build bespoke set up's for customers... where they pick the frame, groupset (whatever the brand) etc.... of course then there are the power meters etc to add on...oval rings..and so it goes on....

I have to say, the concept of a swinging and cycling club is a bit weird for me?

Drafting someone's posterior on the chaingang, that you're contemplating riding in a different manner would all be a bit of a distraction!

Besides I ride several times a week....I indulge in fab activities about several times a decade!

No-ones swinging off my zipps!

"Yeah Ilkley and into Wharfedale is a great area and totally different from down here in the south... not many "ups" here..all wind ...lol..... the shop wasn't the "H" but the "R" company named after the smallest county in England...say no more... there are a few Bike shops around Ilkley and a good mobile guy...nice cafe's too... can't beat a stop when out on a ride..

Huntingdon is hardly the south! Haha. Come down and ride the South Downs, there is some hills there!!

Ah yes, I’ve visited the R company in my time...

Yes the South Downs are a challenge....Dartmoor is too ... I like North York Moors and High Peak too....

I did a sportive in the South Downs, not knowing how hilly it was! Haha. Boy did my legs ache. I also did a 65m one here in Kent, total opposite! Not a hill in sight. But it did tip it down with rain the whole time!!

AHH the leg ache when you've not trained for hills ...you don't know what to do with them post ride...just the time to get one of those sports massage types to sort it out.... I'd rather have hills than rain....and ...anyty is better than battling Fenland winds... ugh

I’ve never had a sports massage! I’m normally in need of tea and carbs after a ride!! Haha "

Tea and cake works for me... lol.... Carrot & Orange Cake preferred....

Can you imagine a cyclist in a BDSM environment

Subbie "Red"

Cylist thinks 'That means GO'

Subbie "Red, RED"

Cyclist 'They must be really loving it'

Subbie "I SAID RED YOU FUCKER, I'm never playing with you again"

Mountain biker here, I much prefer to get filthy in the woods than wearing Lycra on the roads.

It’s good for the mind and body, I read the government are looking at issuing bikes for patients with depression. We’ve known for years that cycling(whatever discipline) cheers you up.

"Club TT tonight, good weather for fast times. "

I miss the agonising over 'will it be a good forecast' that came with time trialling, at leat with the track league I only had to worry if it was going to be dry or not!

I might do a few local tens later in the tear as I've entered a duathlon so it might be a useful reminder. Only problem I have is my 2 local courses, one I don't consider safe on and the other I've riden a few times but can't warm to the club at all

Great idea but if the government doesn't sort the roads out first, it'll be seen as state sponsored euthanasia
