Once case so far but it has to be donated by one of the small handful of people with immunity. In reality you have more chance of collecting wild hamster sperm than getting enough to cure a hundred people never mind them all.

It was cured a side effect of radical treatment which is unlikely ever to be used to cure HIV so I would hope that people continue to protect themselves

You guys just ruined my bareback dreams...

When I read the HIV article, I thought this would spark a sexual revolution and we would all go back to free love like in the 60’s....

I guess now, I won’t be throwing my magnums away....

No because with antiviral drugs HIV already isn't the big thing it was. However all the other STIs are on the increase and can cause long term damage

The effectiveness of multiple people being treated and probably cured, could now drive new treatments that could work in conjunction with the body's own capabilities. Needed for the millions in places like Africa.

just north of Birmingham

Sorry to disappoint you, but that’s not quite true. The individual concerned isn’t fully cured, his viral load is just below detectable levels. This isn’t to say it won’t return.

Also, the treatment used, is FAR too expensive and complex to be rolled out universally.

Hardly you need to read the full report and the small specific group of potential donors needed.

On a lighter note they have also developed a treatment in pill form that makes you unnable to give the disease to anyone else and you are classed as HIV positive undetectable so we should, atleast in western society, be able to eradicate the virus in a few generations

Wolf.

That's not new. Most HIV sufferers have pills to keep the hiv under control and give them an undetectable viral load, which in theory then can't be passed on. HIV is reducing in the UK. We also have pep and PRep. Pep has been used for years in cases of sexual assault etc. Prep can be taken long term or taken ahead of a event it helps protect against the transmission of HIV it can be given as a trial on the NHS for those in risk factor groups. However they have to agree to 3monthly sti tests and blood tests to check for other infections and that the prep isn't doing damage as it's a strong drug. prep can also be purchased online.
