Blocking people, rude or not?

Does anybody else block people who just delete your message or don't respond?

I do, but not because of spite or because I am annoyed I didn't get a reply.

Just because it saves me messaging that person again by accident.

Am I being rude by doing this? Or is it perhaps the norm?

I am curious to see everyone's opinions!

I don't see any problems with blocking those who aren't interested in you. It means the same people don't appear again in searches and you get to see others instead.

If it works for you then great!

Although I’m yet to utilise my block list on here I don’t think it is rude. Simple way of ensuring you don’t communicate again.

I prefer it if men would block when I send a polite thanks but no thanks. It grates on me when I see the same message pop up week after week because they forget who they are sending cut and paste messages to.

Not bigging ourselves up, but we get a lot of messages from single guys, some with one line messages which is OK as we will look at their profile and if we think ‘mmmm potential’, then we may reply, but if not then we generally ignore /delete as we will probably be one of many and they’ll get over it.

If someone takes the time to write something interesting after they’ve taken the time to read our profile, we will try and make time to reply back, even if it’s sadly a thanks but no thanks.

Profiles with no verifications that have been on for some time tends to paint a picture of someone who’s either not really wanting to meet or/and is attached so couldn’t get away to meet, even if they wanted to.

Single guys do get called on, but understandably there’s loads, and many are just looking at pics for their wank bank, so it tends to put us off single men if they have put on their profile ‘Fill out later’ or next to nothing about themselves.

Not rude, really as it is your choice and up to you how you want to manage your profile and what you see / get on the site. I do find it a bit odd if the block hammer comes down for what appears to be a bit slow to reply to a message (sometimes you just want to think a bit more about what you want to write) but it's not something to get worked up about. My whole life and identity is not wrapped up in this site so it does make it easier to be a bit lighter about thigs like bans or blunt messages.

I block people who don't get the hint and keep messaging.

Also if I have sent a message and they delete I sometimes block to save me messaging in future.Or I use the profile notes feature.

We block lots just so they or us don't waste time in future, and we would prefer anyone who would not want to meet us to do the same.

I do this too, also for abuse. I don't use it to stop people combining up in searches, updates etc, but if that works for others then carry on doing it.

It's not rude OP. We block those we know we won't be meeting regardless of whether any messages were exchanged or not. It saves time from both sides, gives you a chance to see others in searches and you're more likely to see someone you're interested in on local updates before they drop off the list.

Our block list is massssssssive! If we don’t have any interest, or the profile looks fake ie been on a year and no pics or Veris etc we block!

I wish more people would! I reply to messages with a thanks but no thanks and get the same message back a few weeks later, so I reply that it was a no before it's still a no! Maybe I should block more often! Although our block list is already long enough!

Totally your choice. If we had deleted your message or not replied we would likely never notice anyway.

Oh god yes it saves the embarrassment of messaging them again and also if they claim your everything they are looking for and you put effort in a message and send a face pic only to get it deleted fucks me right off no harm in saying no thanks or even better sorry your not what I'm after just point blank rude in my opinion

We don't block people for any kind of vindictive reason. We simply block people to remove hem from search results both ways. If they are not of interest to us then we don't need to have uneccessary contact on fab. If we met those people out at a club then we'd always chat but it just means they are not our thing from a sexual attraction point of view. I think 'block' brings certain connotations and it would better labelled as 'hide' in my opinion. Maybe people wouldn't take as much offense if we were just hiding our profile from those that don't interest us.

I have a question and a suggestion too.

Is there a limit eg 200 on the number of people you can block and if that’s exceeded does it unblock the profile that has been blocked the longest ?

I think profiles should show the number of people who have blocked that profile as it may give an indication of who to avoid. A sort of Trip Advisor for Fab !

Mainly block men for being pushy can be particularly frustrating when you have exchanged nice messages then suddenly it's message after message of wanting to meet that day when we have a family and nearly always need to plan meets
