It's very very common in sex play, its partly about relinquishing responsibility, having things done to you without having to make the decision.

Taken further with punishment or rough handling can lead to explosive sex.

For quick sex, bondage tape is very good, being tied to a ceiling hook or wall hooks (St Andrews X) is good for spanking/flogging.

If you want to take restraints to a whole new level (non sexual) then Shibari suspension is the 'in-thing' but for this you will need a rope Master (rigger), ie. someone who knows what they are doing!
