This is an interesting point

My local clinic is only open from 9.30 am and that is for walk in, people can start to wait from anytime in the morning and that is At a hospital

My next local clinic is open from 9 but can only wait from 8.45 and that is at a smaller location but with as more nurses on

What I have noticed is that both are not open on a Saturday or Sunday which means if you do have a scare or are worried you can’t get seen till to Monday morning.

Do you think clinics should open on the weekend and if so should it be walk-in or apointment

A lot of clinics do appointments at weekends and other hours.

You can go to your Dr's as well. Or if you had a immediate issue that couldn't wait such as a bad flare of of HSV then you can go to out of hours surgery.

Nothing else can't wait until the following Monday. Sexual health has incubation periods. Say you had a condom split on a Friday night. Ideally you need to wait 2weeks for tests anyway. Nothing is going to cause a major issue over a weekend that can't wait till Monday.

The same with contraception a lot of chemist do free morning after pills.

You really do need to think about impact of costs of staff when posting things like this. Walk in needs a full quota of staff, what a waste if no one turns up. Appointments can be staffed against the patients they are expecting

Poole

I had my appointment at 7pm last Monday. When I phoned for results, the machine said " unless your showing symtoms, next time you can have a test at home kit"

My results this time were "all clear" we get tested reg for peace of mind.

Sexytown, Moray

As an above poster has said, even a friday night scare couldnt really be dealt with that quickly, but my local one at the local hospital opens at 8.30, but best to get there at about 8am as gets busy,

I find the postal tests are really convenient, easy to use, fast and no waiting around.

I wonder how many people go to the a and e or leave it and do go at all. I appreciate the costs but if you saw my clinic Monday morning it was turning people away at 9.30 as already full.

My local clinic you can not book an appointment and have to use the walk in centre.

Then travel further? Would you expect your GP to be open all these times you are stating. Nothing needs emergency treatment in GU. Yes first case HSV can be painful that's why I say go to out of hours if that was the case not A&E. Staffing on a weekend costs too much.

It is reassuring that some people on this site have the intelligence to get regular testing for STI's... There are rumours that the NHS will be reducing or removing the funding for GUM clinics, the system is broken...

How will this effect us..? Sleepless nights I guess...

As far as I'm aware the NHS doesn't fund sexual health clinics although they are based at nhs sites and staffed by NHS nurses and doctors. The funding comes from the local authorities which is why provision varies depending on where you live and in many areas the services are being cut to save money.

The last infection my “friend” had, he wouldn’t have made it to any “walk in” centre....
