There and to the left a bit |
Both Google Reverse Image and TinEye are not infallible - firstly a slight crop or filter added to a pic can prevent a match.
Secondly applying a bit of logic, given the speed with which those tools return a result, there's no way they can have searched every nook and cranny of the internet, comparing the pics.
I suspect that at most the comparison algorithms just look at the top layer of sites for a match - anything buried a layer or two down won't be found.
You then have protected profiles that may be password protected that probably wouldn't be searched, and a whole lot more.
So just because something on here doesn't reverse image doesn't mean it's genuine and belongs to the person whose profile it is - conversely though, just because a picture gets a hit doesn't mean that person is fake and using borrowed pics, they could have posted them elsewhere, and that's where using a little common sense comes in.
To use a recent example, there was a profile whose pics were regular visitors to the top of Hot Pics, one of those pics happened to reverse image one day, and actually took you to a profile on a picture sharing site where it soon became apparent all of the pics on that Fab profile had come from - the poster was called on it in the forums and explained they had pics elsewhere - however a little more digging revealed the Fab poster was located in one place this side of the Atlantic, the owners of the pics were located the other side of it, and various other details on their profile clashed with the ones posted here - now that particular profile is no longer here and I shall no more than that about it.
Why do people do it? Because they have no intention of meeting, and get a kick out of leading others on, is one thing. Because they're actually a bloke posing as a woman and enjoying the attention they get. Because they appear to look better, and hope to explain it away somehow if they do meet. Because the pics make them appear more exciting (another one I was aware of was a guy using various pics of soldiers (including, sickeningly, one dead one) that presumably he was using to try to impress).
As ever with these things, you can never truly know until you meet someone, so all you can do is use as much diligence as you can to get to know people and get a feel for how genuine they are |
