Inspired by a BB thread which attracted a bit of negativity. I posted that if you must BB, get checked monthly and keep a record of who you could have infected.

I don't BB but I have BJ without a condom. Covered sex has risks so I get checked monthly including bloods. I understood more frequently than monthly wouldn't detect infections.

What are people's opinions on check ups e.g. duration? Does anyone feel they don't need them because they don't BB or some other reason.

Whats much more important though is if you test positive are you informing everyone you've been with for at least 2 weeks before your last test (so last 6 weeks for every month).

We get checked every three months even though we don't BB. We do have oral without protection so it's worth the check. However in our area the clinic send test kits by post with a reply paid box and the results are really fast.

Fantastic, oh and never had a problem either.

I think we all owe it to each other to have tests. You should have an option to have it verified by FAB and a little sign appear next to profile showing tested in last 12 weeks...

Whilst it's a great idea, it'd be very hard for that to eh enforced I imagine.

We get tested every few months or more often if we happen to have a period where we meet a lot.

Being tested and getting the results is no guarantee..You could get the all clear Friday, and then get infected Saturday, and go three months or so infecting others untill your next test.

People say ..yeah we get checked out every 3 months or so..So do you bring this proof with you and show it on every meet..

People will lie just to get a shag..

The only way to truly stay fully clear it to sleep with your one partner for life....

Syphilis can take months to show on a test. Others take at least a few weeks.

I always was tested regularly when I had multiple partners, then went back for a recheck to make sure nothing was missed.

I do NOT understand anyone who says they've never been tested or don't see the need to.

Anyway due to a recent man issue - not sti related but they have to do the checks. I had to go to the GUM clinic to get tested. My results came back clean. I had since realised I should get checked a hell of a lot more regularly than I do.

I still won’t play bare back but I am going to get quarterly checks by post now.

It can live in the throat and also 50% of men can have it and now show ANY symptoms. In women it’s as high as 70%. Whilst the chances of Clymidia by oral is minimal, there is still a chance.

Also you can get something called a NSU infection which can be passed from a women from a man just on the basis of a tooth infection or throat infection

Both have VERY similar symptoms. Both are treatable by a course antibiotics. Due to my man issue recently (a sti scare but wasn’t), I have educated myself a lot more than I ever did

Checked every three months come what may, or should a condom accident occur then usually wait roughly ten days til after it for an extra one and then I restart my three month cycle.

I even ask got checked semi regularly (maybe not religiously every three months though!) when I was in an exclusive relationship and playing BB. Glad I did as turned out he was cheating anyway and playing BB with more than one other.

Just shows you can't be too careful with your own health

Usually get tested every three months, always find the clinic to be friendly and non-Djudgemental, in fact in my experience they actually welcome people from this lifestyle who are both informed and responsible about their sexual health.

They've now started doing postal testing in my area, which I did last time, covered the same range of tests the clinic offers, is easy to do, and got the results just as quickly - can recommend if it's offered in your area - only criticism is there are a limited number of test kits available each day, so you may have to wait a while and keep trying till you get one - early morning before business hours is best.

I get tested shortly after and often before sleeping with a new partner. Which is why I prefer having a regular where we both agree sexual exclusivity.

I don't sleep with allot of numbers, so it's fairly easy to do and I'll test regularly when I have a fuckbuddy. As they may be dating (so may fuck someone else) and not everyone is so forth coming with the truth.

If you mean alternate them so one of you gets tested one time and the other the next and you rely on each other's results to suggest you're both clear then that's a somewhat naive assumption to make - one of you may have immunity but be able to carry an infection, one of you could easily pick up an infection but not the other and various other possibilities - far better to both get tested at the same regularity.

If I've misunderstood your meaning then apologies, but perhaps you could clarify a little?

12 weekly is recommended window period for hiv and. Syphilis is 3 months.

If you are having risky sex more often. Window period is 2-4 weeks for chlamydia

Personally I only get my bloods done 6 monthly and i have swabs including oral done every 6-12 weeks depending on if I've met new people.

I get tested regularly when checking my iron levels too due to thalassemia. I do bb with 4 regular non fab girlfriends and i wouldnt freak out to talk about bb on here too and make a desicion based on my judgement. Realistically, the chances are that you will not die from AIDS weeks after you had unprotected sex which is what a great amount of people on here believe. Its kind of education vs phobia

I'm sure the cost associated with treatment and the burden that would put on not only medication service but also counselling services would probably out weight the costs of tests.

Not including the social cost, I'm always surprised how different (in my experience) the attitude towards it in the states it but then they typically will have to pay.

Hiv is not a big issue that it once was in this country now and I'm sure no one thinks what you suggested. However syphilis is on the rise. Quite a steady rise infact if you read the literature.

Chlamydia is at a all time high with 1in 12 people having had it or have it. The issue with chlamydia is its such a tiny bacteria which means one drop of fluid can contain loads of the virus which makes it very easy to transmit. There are 2 main treatments for chlamydia at the minute... What happens when the chlamydia mutates which it will in time. We have already had cases of super gonorrhoea

We do the same, people think just using condoms makes them safe so they don't bother with tests where in fact it makes them a risk.

Using your mouth or just close contact can also give you infections which is why regular tests are important.

Im pretty sure chlamydia and gonorrhea are detected in blood samples by testing the reaction to antibodies respectively. You’re right about chlamydia but when you ask your GP for an all std check, they takes blood samples for everything...

I have also just ordered a kit today Very impressed it’s being sent out first class today. I never really thought about it to be honest as I only sleep with women but obviously you can still catch things and my meet on Saturday said she gets tested regularly so it’s the responsible thing to do.

If you're going to a clinic be assured they're very friendly non-judgemental, is no different than visiting the docs really, they'll ask about your recent sexual activity and why you want to be tested and offer any advice you think you might need and then tell you what tests they'll do and either do them themselves or ask you to provide a sample etc. Depending on your local health authority you may get a text message confirming results (usually within 5-7 days, although it's often sooner) or they'll tell you that unless you hear from them it's a clear test.

If you're testing by post - they send out all you need in discreet packaging and each test comes with clear instructions of how to do the test you then just send them back (all postage is paid so just pop it in a postbox) and get the results a few days later.

I don't BB but I have BJ without a condom. Covered sex has risks so I get checked monthly including bloods. I understood more frequently than monthly wouldn't detect infections.

What are people's opinions on check ups e.g. duration? Does anyone feel they don't need them because they don't BB or some other reason.

I get tested regularly when checking my iron levels too due to thalassemia. I do bb with 4 regular non fab girlfriends and i wouldnt freak out to talk about bb on here too and make a desicion based on my judgement. Realistically, the chances are that you will not die from AIDS weeks after you had unprotected sex which is what a great amount of people on here believe. Its kind of education vs phobia

The issue with chlamydia is its such a tiny bacteria which means one drop of fluid can contain loads of the virus which makes it very easy to transmit. There are 2 main treatments for chlamydia at the minute... What happens when the chlamydia mutates which it will in time. We have already had cases of super gonorrhoea

Im pretty sure chlamydia and gonorrhea are detected in blood samples by testing the reaction to antibodies respectively. You’re right about chlamydia but when you ask your GP for an all std check, they takes blood samples for everything... "

I can assure you this is not the case. The UK testing for chlamydia is by urine and swabs. Or by inspection under microscopy.

Just received our first postal kit. Can't really see why anyone wouldn't want to get tested on a regular basis? I suppose that even in this day and age that there are still a lot of uneducated people out there? No doubt that there is also a fair amount of naivety, wrecklesness, indifference, fear and people that just can't be bothered?

A small prick every few weeks or so ain't such a bad thing eh?

I have recently found out a couple of guys i have been seeing have never been tested and weren't even sure where to go or what to ask for... but swore blind they where completely clean before we met... Very worrying that people are being so flippant with sexual health

Yes, each clinic has it's own policy on notifications of positive and negative results. Also remember notifications are complex, there are generally three or more tests carried out per sample and the clinic must wait for all results to be returned in order to notify by a single text. Chlamydia and Gonorrhea sometimes are carried out using a machine which can turn results around in 2 hours on site however they can't test all STIs this way unfortunantly, so some need to go to labs which can a couple of days.

In general, if negative most will send out texts however if positive, some will send a 'please call clinic' others will send the actual result and region tested i.e. throat, anus etc.

Don't ask me why I know so much about this but I can assure you it's not through experience of being tested.

Nothing is foolproof, but at least we do get tested and we do get results by text, thankfully always good news. It also shows we don't bullshit.

If you test negative on an HIV RNA test after two weeks of possibly being exposed, you are very likely HIV-negative. If you test negative on a 4th generation rapid test or lab assay that detects HIV antigens (part of the HIV virus) in addition to antibodies after three or four weeks after possibly being infected, you are very likely HIV-negative. And if you test negative on an antibody test taken 3 months or longer after your last possible risk of possible exposure to HIV, you are likely HIV-negative. The person who gives you your HIV test will have additional information about the test's "window period."

For this reason, we recommend that people who are having sex get tested routinely every 3 months. Routine testing is painless and ensures that if you do get infected, you can start treatment right away. See our article on BETA explaining the importance of starting treatment as early as possible.

We get checked every 3 months. Bloods, mouth swabs....the lot.

We save the results to our phone for any proof

Its not just from having sex or oral you can catch an sti. U can get them from HOT tubs

So no matter if you do BB or not its wise to get tested

Exactly. Many many people never get tested because they don't have symptoms or they think only other people catch things.

Yes for peace of mind I suggest regular tests regardless of B/b or not, as pointed out oral unsheathed has its potential.

Personally I test fully every 2/3 months, and last week received my 3rd of 4 stage vaccination for hepatitis.

Many people here are talking about about the scary stis such as HIV etc but no-one seems to have mentioned the dreaded herpes. I would never discourage anyone from being tested however not many people realise that you cannot be tested for this unless you have symptoms. The statistics of people who have this infection are scary and it is so easily passed on but there is such a stigma attached to it. Just remember that testing is good but can't guarantee that you are clear.

Every 3 months I get tested for everything. If I have a quiet period I just make sure I'm tested 12 weeks after last contact, since HIV and syphilis can take that long to show in tests. Saying that, I don't BB (apart from oral) , I'm just paranoid

Better to be tested than not. Although it does not garuntee you are clear it is better than not testing.

There's nothing wrong with a trip to the clinic but I can do this in 10 minutes.

we have commented before on this subject regarding chlamydia......lots of of women like having cum all over their face but insist on a condom for penetration but we can tell you that we played in a club fully gloved but a few days later eyes we were sore and swollen went to the eye hospital and they took swabs only to tell us a day later that i have chlamydia in my eye....they told us that its very common and one of the most easiest places to contract it as there are no natural barriers in the eye and said we more than likely got it through rubbing the eye after playing with an invected person .....the strange thing was that it wasnt in the rest of the body.......what we are trying to say non matter how what unless you are monogamous there is always a risk and as in this post yes it does live in the throat as do many other sti's

Mine didn't advertise throat swabs, but I asked them for one when ordering online and they sent it.

Since we are discussing health matters here and to keep some perspective , remember that if you are overweight or smoke or drink more than 14 units of alcohol a week ( probably 90% of all the swingers I’ve met fall into at least one of these groups) then you better address those issues first as they are going to kill you early unlike getting a dose of Chlamydia .

Was working local to the Sandyford clinic in Glasgow a few weeks ago and thought why not

Took a urine and blood sample

It took about 30mins in total from entering the building to leaving

Results took about a week...everything good

Also the lady was very nice and understanding

Even asked me if I was on fabswingers or fabguys

I had to bite my tongue as I wanted to ask her if she was...as she has a beautiful set of boobs

I'd definitely go again and recommend it to everyone

Very easy to book an appointment and you can choose where in the city to goto if you don't want your local clinic were the neighbour across the street works in

We do, stupid not to! We condom up, and still get checked.

I go more than Mr due to his work rota. I go evey 4 - 6 weeks. Him every 3 months. Unless we've had a message from someone who had a scare. Touch wood, only thing we've had is thrush. And you don't have to have sex to get that

We were both very careful before we met but still got ourselves checked before going BB with each other and as we don’t meet we know we are completely safe from bringing an STI into the relationship.

We get tested every 6-8 weeks. Our clinic isn't close and the opening times with our work hours makes it difficult to do it anymore regularly.

We don't bb new partners but we both get the full works done each time regardless.
