"You use a VPN Can I ask what is a VPN. " Virtual Private Network Basically it will switch your IP to a different country so you can access sites that are blocked in your country and it hides your activities online from being logged by your ISP. Do some research though and check their level of encryption, make sure they dont log anything you do when activating the VPN and if you torrent make sure they support torrenting as well.

"tis the thin end of the wedge, its so we have no option but to see censored and sanitised news, now we get a lot of news from the web, the media giants cant control what we read. " You already do anyhow. The news reporters/editors already decide what you hear and what spin is on it. For instance some years ago bbc news was talking about a potential law to let women check the history of men to see if they have committed domestic violence, they did not state once that men may or could do the same. Thereby ignoring or worse denying that men can and do suffer domestic violence at the hands of women.

"Never use a free a free vpn service. They can be used to install malware and other malicious activities. I’ve heard Nord vpn is a good straight forward service with reasonable prices (as someone else pointed out above). " Agreed. Take the small hit and pay for a reputable VPN. Nord are good, as is VyprVPN by Golden Frog. We use Vypr, and never have an issue. Most importantly it works every time. Cost is £70 p.a. and worth every penny if you have iptv or want to look on the dark web.

Unless we all want to start having "the talk" with our kids at 6 years of age it's a good idea." Bank details is just one proposed way they have no idea how best to do it yet. Each one being a terrible idea as it allows your identy to be directly linked to it, and it will be a hunting ground for fraudsters. Its up to the patents to control what their kids see and have access to, not the government. There are already ways for parents to limit what they can access. Don't be fooled, this is a just a backdoor way for the government to eventually limit and control a lot more of what you see. This and the EU's Article13 are just the start. In the none too distant future all countries will have China-like Internet restrictions. That is far from good.

"You use a VPN Can I ask what is a VPN. " A virtual private network, it encrypts your connection to the internet and sends it through a different country to bypass any restrictions. This is how the Chinese and other nations access Google and other banned political material. Costs £5-10 a month, also useful for keeping a secure connection when using public WiFi sports that can be intercepted (Man in the middle attacks)

It’s not owning a debit card that gets you access - it’s the details attached to your account. They can use your bank account details to verify your age. Same with ID. They will check against your passport or driving license number to verify your address, name and age amongst other things. It can’t be faked.

"I don’t know why you’re talking about hackers? It’s 2019. The internet is safe. Over £60billion worth of online transactions happened in the UK last year. Less than 0.05% of those resulted in fraud. Giving details online is safer than doing it in real life. You’re making a big deal out of nothing. Just use your card or passport to verify your age and you’re set." This is totally true, passing credit card details to a site displaying the lock symbol on your browser is using SSL (TLS1.2 or better) Encryption and is safer than driving to work or flying!

Given the revelation of how Facebook had treated personal data, I'm not happy that DVLA will have a flag to say that I have used my driving licence to prove my age to look at porn. Internet fraudsters are getting more sophisticated by the day and will love the idea of all those bank details going online. It’s called “Verify” (different card issuers have differing versions). Put simply, it’ll ask you to type in random characters from a pre-saved password. Or they’ll send a text to the cardholders phone where you have to reply “yes” to confirm

" A well known site similar to this one which I became a full member of, didn't show its real name but showed it was a "Hook up, dating and escorts service" which was a bit embarrassing for me when my bank froze my card because they thought there was some "suspicious activity" from an unknown source they hadn't seen before and thought someone had stolen my debit card. They told me the company name (a different name that the site uses on your bank statement) but it showed the bank what type of site it was which embarrassing for me as it was the local bank that I used for years and I wasn't happy them knowing my personal business but then I laughed it off as I'm sure they know I have needs lol, just like they do.

"Don't see how verifying your bank details will prove your an adult as lots of under 18's have bank accounts and lots of children have access to their parents details, hence why so many have spent thousands on games online " I think a lot of people are misunderstanding the technology and processes used to identify you. It doesn’t matter if it’s a bank card, a passport, a drivers license, a citizen card, a tax ID, an Experian credit check or whatever else.... they all connect to a back-end system that verifies you by your address and date of birth and other verifiable data that’s registered with government and trustworthy systems.

But some companies don't have them locked at the moment & you can have the shop help you lock it. But knowing how 60% of children with phones have the know how to unlock or remove child lock. I believe that every phone should be linked to a national database that holds the phones & all the Ni numbers for everyone. New owners can ring or send a text to them with your NI number. The database will know if the person is 18 not as the letters & number are set for years they are sent out to 16yr olds. It better than Bank details & if it done through the Government sever it would have encryption on it.

"Here in the States, the Congress has either proposed or actually passed a law making adult sites responsible for references to illegal activity by their members. C/L no longer has personal ads. Doublelist, a C/L substitute, requires verification with a valid telephone number to open an account with them and post messages. SLS limits what you may do with a free account. On AFF you cannot email or respond with a free account. The F.B.I. has shut down Backpage because of prostitution including underage activity. I would think they could use software to search for certain words and phrases alluding to anything illegal but making the sites responsible for their members behavior is going too far and I wonder if there is even a constitutional issue here. " Thé problem existing in CL was there before the changes which in real terms affected peoples (iirc- and correct me if I’ve got it wrong 3&4 amendments) and acted against these amendments. It was a no brainier to conform and easy for them to do it. As for the monitoring behind the scenes, there are a few proposals put in place years ago that allowed the civil servants - not the police/ government to monitor our internet activity. The monitoring proposal on a white Paper and subsequent debate allowed for an increase in the budget of over 500%. And your worried about a hacker getting your bank details. The watchers already have them. Sleep tight, there watching you.

"Yeah VPNs are handy. Is this proposed just for the U.K or will it effect countries in the EU as well? " No its just a UK thing, the EU said it was against our human rights but another reason the government wants brexit so badly, it was supposed to be in action for last April but brexit took up too much of the governments time...the joys of living in a free country lol.

""It's getting access to the net using a website that hides your digital location. That means that it thinks that you are not inside the UK so UK verification is not required. But it costs and is not straight forward" "The who’s nearby would read 2500 miles away from your nearest blow job " That what I guest reading OP's answer. " No I use a vpn on my phone so I can access fab when not on wifi people’s location is shown at the correct distance. All it does is confuse the software that blocks you from going on 18+ sites
