How will we access this site when the porn law is passed?

Just read in the DM that from April you will have to verify your age every time to access a website that has 25%content of images deemed to be porn. The proposed verification is using your bank details. This seems like our government has gone crazy (well we knew that anyway). I am not happy about providing my bank details as we know that hackers just get better any ideas?

It's getting access to the net using a website that hides your digital location. That means that it thinks that you are not inside the UK so UK verification is not required. But it costs and is not straight forward

"You use a VPN Can I ask what is a VPN. "

Virtual Private Network

Basically it will switch your IP to a different country so you can access sites that are blocked in your country and it hides your activities online from being logged by your ISP.

Do some research though and check their level of encryption, make sure they dont log anything you do when activating the VPN and if you torrent make sure they support torrenting as well.

Yes, it's going to change the access to lot's of sites, FAB is not porn but I guess due to the photos it would be classified as such. I can see a lot of people not being prepared to use their bank details to access sites going forwards

This is only the first stage. They know many people will not protest against nthe use of blocking porn from people 18 and over.

This will be used in other areas to sanitise the internet and censor information online.

The bigger the government, the more control they want over their people.

Your right this is only the start & is will soon be the case that if you want to go on line you can only do so if you first log onto the UK internet government spying censorship sever. (I know there isn't anything like that at the moment But in years to come & not many it will be)

You already do anyhow. The news reporters/editors already decide what you hear and what spin is on it.

For instance some years ago bbc news was talking about a potential law to let women check the history of men to see if they have committed domestic violence, they did not state once that men may or could do the same.

Thereby ignoring or worse denying that men can and do suffer domestic violence at the hands of women.

Nord are good, as is VyprVPN by Golden Frog.

Proton VPN is excellent. They have free servers which don't support P2P traffic, and paid ones which do. Log free, and very privacy focused.

They also provide proton mail, which is secure encrypted email, both free and paid.

All our internet traffic is routed via a VPN, using a non logging DNS server, and adverts are automatically pi-holed. Been doing this for years since the government passed the snooping laws.

Stay safe online, always wear a trusted VPN. Xx

Bank details is just one proposed way they have no idea how best to do it yet. Each one being a terrible idea as it allows your identy to be directly linked to it, and it will be a hunting ground for fraudsters.

Its up to the patents to control what their kids see and have access to, not the government. There are already ways for parents to limit what they can access.

Don't be fooled, this is a just a backdoor way for the government to eventually limit and control a lot more of what you see.

This and the EU's Article13 are just the start. In the none too distant future all countries will have China-like Internet restrictions. That is far from good.

It's all about control. The UK Government simply does not like us having free access to the amount of information that we do. Yes, stopping youngsters accessing porn over the internet is a good thing, but it's highly likely that that's just a yarn to get people to fall into line and back our oh so considerate Governments concern for our youngsters.

The kids today are incredibly tech minded and once they can't get onto their favourite sites they know exactly what to do to get around any obstacles. The Pirate Bay comes to mind. Blocked by all UK service providers, yet we hear kids talking about their latest downloads from there. Kids often know more than adults when it comes to the ways and means if the internet. They know all about mirror sites and VPN's so sorry, we're not falling for the considerate and caring Government crap.

We wonder, if like so many laws passed by our glorious leaders, they'll be exempt from any limitations they impose on us.

I don’t know why you’re talking about hackers? It’s 2019. The internet is safe. Over £60billion worth of online transactions happened in the UK last year. Less than 0.05% of those resulted in fraud. Giving details online is safer than doing it in real life.

You’re making a big deal out of nothing. Just use your card or passport to verify your age and you’re set.

A virtual private network, it encrypts your connection to the internet and sends it through a different country to bypass any restrictions. This is how the Chinese and other nations access Google and other banned political material. Costs £5-10 a month, also useful for keeping a secure connection when using public WiFi sports that can be intercepted (Man in the middle attacks)

No they can’t use fake ID or debit cards. It’s not owning a debit card that gets you access - it’s the details attached to your account. They can use your bank account details to verify your age.

Same with ID. They will check against your passport or driving license number to verify your address, name and age amongst other things. It can’t be faked.

This is totally true, passing credit card details to a site displaying the lock symbol on your browser is using SSL (TLS1.2 or better) Encryption and is safer than driving to work or flying!

Near Carmarthen

The British Board of Film Classification has been charged with coming up with the verification procedures.

A big part of what the BBFC has to figure out is what forms of age verification will be appropriate. "We expect to see a number of solutions offered by providers to give people different ways to verify their age," an FAQ on the BBFC website states.

The owner of Pornhub and many other adult sites, Mindgeek, recently detailed the system it intends to use. AgeID is an encrypted login that can work across any site, meaning someone only has to verify their age once to get into any site that uses the same tool. Apparently it doesn't store any personal information, just the data it needs to tell a site: Yes, this visitor is over 18.

Mindgeek isn't just planning to use AgeID across its own brands. It intends to license the tool out to other sites and let smaller, independent providers use it for free. There is the question of whether one huge porn distributor should dictate how every UK-facing site checks age, but that's exactly the kind of thing the BBFC should be looking at. As you can imagine, a lot of people aren't happy about mandatory age verification in general.

The worry is that any mechanism will leave a digital trail, meaning your personal porn habits are cataloged... somewhere -- one of the benefits of Mindgeek's AgeID tool is that it follows you around so you don't have to log in to every individual site. And if a record exists, how can we be sure this remains private and secure?

Exactly, that's the problem, your data, be it bank details, driving license or other will be checked with the information provider, so by implication they will know that you want to look at porn. Given the revelation of how Facebook had treated personal data, I'm not happy that DVLA will have a flag to say that I have used my driving licence to prove my age to look at porn. Unfortunately they still have to check it again your data, for example you submitted you bank details or driving license number, this means they take this information and contact DVLA or your bank and ask them to confirm that the information is correct, this includes you date of birth. The bank or DVLA does this but keeps a record that they have verified this information.

It's a worry and would make me think twice as a new user to look at so called porn websites like this one will be classified.

Costa Blanca Spain...

It will be interesting to see what they come up with.

The German site we use (Joyclub) has different categories of pics and to access the FSK 18 ones (basically anything more than tits and arse) you have to be age verified.

In the past it was quite a complicated procedure but they came up with a new idea a couple of years ago.

Certain clubs can now do age verification on site. All you have to do is ask the club when you visit and they will pass it on to Joyclub.

From then on you only have to re-enter your password and all is open.

However I somehow think that in the UK it's going to be a lot more complicated than that.

A well known site similar to this one which I became a full member of, didn't show its real name but showed it was a "Hook up, dating and escorts service" which was a bit embarrassing for me when my bank froze my card because they thought there was some "suspicious activity" from an unknown source they hadn't seen before and thought someone had stolen my debit card. They told me the company name (a different name that the site uses on your bank statement) but it showed the bank what type of site it was which embarrassing for me as it was the local bank that I used for years and I wasn't happy them knowing my personal business but then I laughed it off as I'm sure they know I have needs lol, just like they do.

"It's getting access to the net using a website that hides your digital location. That means that it thinks that you are not inside the UK so UK verification is not required. But it costs and is not straight forward"

TouchVPN is 100% free and easy to install and use.

Google play or IOS apps is where you'll find it.

Takes minutes to install/set up and works perfectly

When I signed up with a new ISP, I had to jump through hoops, just to access *any* internet whatsoever.

I wholeheartedly agree in the idea of protecting minors from (lets face it) some nasty shit on the internet - but as someone mentioned, if they are sufficiently curious, determined and tech-savvy, then they'll find a way to circumvent the blocks.

It is worrying how the government think it is ok to impose a blanket restriction across the country, regardless of the actual need, per-household...

There isn't a single person under 18, in my entire family.

Nobody under 18 has (or ever will) have access to my PC.

I'm the only person who knows my convoluted passwords.

I already pay for adult sites, such as Fab, with a credit card.

Here in the States, the Congress has either proposed or actually passed a law making adult sites responsible for references to illegal activity by their members. C/L no longer has personal ads. Doublelist, a C/L substitute, requires verification with a valid telephone number to open an account with them and post messages. SLS limits what you may do with a free account. On AFF you cannot email or respond with a free account. The F.B.I. has shut down Backpage because of prostitution including underage activity.

I would think they could use software to search for certain words and phrases alluding to anything illegal but making the sites responsible for their members behavior is going too far and I wonder if there is even a constitutional issue here.

The BBC news item I read said April 2018. So this either never came in, has been delayed, or hasn't been implemented on most sites.

Don't see how verifying your bank details will prove your an adult as lots of under 18's have bank accounts and lots of children have access to their parents details, hence why so many have spent thousands on games online

With Second Life, age veri was quick and simple, by typing in my passport or driver licence number.

Can't remember the name of the company it goes through but they don't store any details. It just sets a permanent flag on your SL account.

I think a lot of people are misunderstanding the technology and processes used to identify you. It doesn’t matter if it’s a bank card, a passport, a drivers license, a citizen card, a tax ID, an Experian credit check or whatever else.... they all connect to a back-end system that verifies you by your address and date of birth and other verifiable data that’s registered with government and trustworthy systems.

""This is only the first stage. They know many people will not protest against nthe use of blocking porn from people 18 and over.

This will be used in other areas to sanitise the internet and censor information online.

The bigger the government, the more control they want over their people."

Your right this is only the start & is will soon be the case that if you want to go on line you can only do so if you first log onto the UK internet government spying censorship sever. (I know there isn't anything like that at the moment But in years to come & not many it will be) "

Wahhhhhh we need to do something!! And I don’t mean just in fab/porn terms. Seriously am stressing right now!

"I read a different article on it there. Said nothing about bank details but says the reason (obviously enough) is to stop children from seeing porn. 6 year olds have phones and tablets now with internet connection. Unless we all want to start having "the talk" with our kids at 6 years of age it's a good idea.

I agree it is he parents that should be setting the blocks on phones tablets etc but I would say out of 100 parents asked that at least 65 wouldn't know how to do it. I was in a shop before christmas & a couple were buy 3 phone the seller team ask if they were for under 18's yes the staff member asked if they knew how to set the child lock on it Father I am guessing made out he knew. Mother look in fear at this I was near the door when they left & she said do you know how to do it G no but it doesn't really matter if the kids see stuff they aren't mean to what harm is watching someone have sex going to do to them. he then laughed she went white & said J was only 5 & she didn't want him seeing sex on his phone. She then pulled the bag out of his hand & went back to the young lad & ask he to set them up Father no shouting thanks for showing me up making out I am thick dumb idiot. The manager asked him to leave which he did mum was very close to tears.

When I got my new phone sim, I had to get it unlocked for adult content. The guy in the shop kept smirking as he was doing it. I said "I watch a lot of porn" and I think he nearly cum in his pants lol.

There should be no stigma lol

It's idiots like that parent is the reason children have access, no child should see or witness anything inappropriate and parents should be held responsible it can be prevented in the home

I agree parents should be held responsible for not locking the phones. Depending on what the child has been able to view I'd go as far as putting the child on the at risk list with the local looking after children's team.

I know o2 have there locked & you can ever ask in the shop to unlock it or ring up the customer helpline to remove the lock. But some companies don't have them locked at the moment & you can have the shop help you lock it.

But knowing how 60% of children with phones have the know how to unlock or remove child lock. I believe that every phone should be linked to a national database that holds the phones & all the Ni numbers for everyone. New owners can ring or send a text to them with your NI number. The database will know if the person is 18 not as the letters & number are set for years they are sent out to 16yr olds. It better than Bank details & if it done through the Government sever it would have encryption on it.

The proposed verification is using your bank details. This seems like our government has gone crazy (well we knew that anyway). I suspect they’ll make all pictures paying members (on once paying members) only, like a one off verification payment process.

They could possibly allow users to rate some of their pics non pornographic and viewable, and rely on people flagging unsuitable content but it probably won’t be worth the hassle of risking breaking the law.

We can get round it then by giving cash to friends to pay for a months membership.

"You use a VPN Can I ask what is a VPN.

Virtual Private Network

Basically it will switch your IP to a different country so you can access sites that are blocked in your country and it hides your activities online from being

logged by your ISP.

Do some research though and check their level of encryption, make sure they dont log anything you do when activating the VPN and if you torrent make sure they support torrenting as well."

Sounds complicated!

Thé problem existing in CL was there before the changes which in real terms affected peoples (iirc- and correct me if I’ve got it wrong 3&4 amendments) and acted against these amendments. It was a no brainier to conform and easy for them to do it.

As for the monitoring behind the scenes, there are a few proposals put in place years ago that allowed the civil servants - not the police/ government to monitor our internet activity. The monitoring proposal on a white Paper and subsequent debate allowed for an increase in the budget of over 500%.

And your worried about a hacker getting your bank details. The watchers already have them.

Sleep tight, there watching you.
