Pampas grass!

I recently read in a novel that people who have Pampas grass in the front garden are telling others in the know that they are available.

Does anyone else know of this phenomenon? Is it true?

We have some very close friends with Pampas grass in the front, not that close though it seems LOL!

We just checked - it's already out of stock in the garden centre next door, they said there'd been a sudden increase in demand...
