For me I like both Dom and sub,and yes all about taking the lead and pushing your boundaries,I love being in control but nothing beats when a woman takes control,especially in role play situations

Being dominant is very reliant on sensual pleasure I find. Telling someone "get on your knees and take this dick" don't do the trick.

It's almost like making someone walk a tight rope of pleasure. You are there to control and balance it out, don't give too much or too less or you lose it. Make use of touch And kisses generally just enjoy foreplay And just when you think they have reached their sensual peak by touching alone! Bite the lip and then say "Get on your knees"

As others have said, state of mind. Trust plays a huge part too! Knowing that whoever is Dom is going to respect boundaries, play within them and ultimately take control for the sake of both of your pleasure (or more if it's not just the 2 of you!) I switch so enjoy being both dominant and submissive but there always needs to be a clear conversation before hand for me just so all parties involved can voice boundaries etc. But as always that's just me
