What it was like

To all those who ask "What's it like in the forces?"

I left home before I was legally allowed to drive, I left my friends and family behind. I was greeted by a screaming Platoon Sergeant.

I wrote my own will before I was legally allowed to drink.

I learnt how to run, march, shoot, take another man's life, save another man's life and run some more!

I stood in the cookhouse at meal times eating food as fast as it was put on my plate because we had very little time to eat.

Too tired even to think how bad the food was. I kept going, every day waking at 0500 hrs for the hard day ahead. I did PT everyday and ached in places I never knew I had.

I have made friends like you wouldn't believe.

We fight! We fight not only for our friends and family but for our buddies next to us!

So if you want to burn this nations great flag, try putting yourselves in our shoes. Try defending it before you disgrace the men and women who defend not only the flag but you and everyone else in this country.

I am proud to wear the uniform of this great country and if given the chance I know that along with thousands of others stand tall and shoulder to shoulder to defend this great country.

And on the 11th of November I will pay homage to those that gave their yesterday, so that we could have our today.

Congratulations and huge thanks to all of our brave service men and women......im attending the service of remembrance at the National Memorial Arboretum tomorrow and really looking forward to it.....big box of tissues in hand xx thank you one and all xx

Sadly as the years pass it seems to mean less and less to too many whose only concern is "me and my selfie".

It does appear to be that way I have got my shoes polished suit ironed and medals ready for tomorrow morning to pay respects to mates lost x

then you get ex marines like Gus who was in the Falkland's and is on the street on hunger strike in Newport Shropshire because they are being kicked out of the audley centre tommy robinson is there today
