I said a word that I didn’t know was racist - was so shocked but my husband googled it and yep...

I had no idea. Felt like a total dick. Was only a seven day ban though!

"I said a word that I didn’t know was racist - was so shocked but my husband googled it and yep...

So you used a word in total innocence but still felt guilty.

This says it all about the current regime, it's as bad as the old days of the church telling people what they can and can't say and do.

I guess Facebook (and identity politics) is the new opium of the people.

A novel idea is to look at the intention behind the words...the real message and not get hung up on the words themselves.

I felt awful because I had no idea it was racist whatsoever. I was so shocked when me and my husband googled it and found out that it was originally a racist word (although it isn’t used that way nowadays).

You don't get it...too brainwashed.

It's not racist if that wasn't your intention.

A word is just a series of letters.

What was the word anyway?

Genuine ignorance...i.e. innocence would of course be an exuse.

What's deemed offensive is arbitrary, fickle and changes constantly.

Oh, I’m not repeating that word again. Especially on social media and/or fab. Nope nope nope

Thankfully the few people who actually saw the comment text me asking if I knew what it actually meant, and they knew I didn’t mean it

I imagine 50-20 years ago your well meaning and nice personality would lead you to be the type fretting about forgetting to do your decade of the rosary or something equally arbitrary and fearing the gates of hell.

I am trying to make friends outside of Facebook, while applying the same principles. Therefore every day I walk down the street, I shall tell passers by what I have eaten, how I feel at the moment, what I've done the night before, what I shall do later and with whom. I shall give them pictures of my family, my garden, and pictures of what anyone does everyday. I will also listen to their conversations give them the thumbs up and tell them I like them. And it works just like Facebook,I already have four people following me, two police officers, a private investigator and a phychiatr. ist

I went live in the summer with my kids in the paddling pool both in just underwear instead of swimming costumes.

It was 30’ and the kids were having fun and want friends and family who also did the same ,to see.

I got banded for breaking indecency rules.

I was fuming!

I’m in prison now for 30 days, it appears that if you report any pic or comment and state either bullying or unwanted attention there’s a very high chance you’ll get a 30 day ban.

My friend and someone on Facebook were arguing a point then suddenly a 30 day ban for bullying, yes the other person reported them!

It’s clear Facebook don’t t always look into the actual facts and just click the ban button!

I have three weeks to go, mind you I did post full nudity! LOL

I think you're expecting too much, not only of FB but people too. While context might be everything for meaning the words and tone can create a permissive environment for all the isms so what you call people does matter. Ignorance is fair enough and perhaps one might plead such case-by-case but the internet desperately needs more moderation (in my opinion, and I used to be in favour of unrestricted free-speach before I started to think about it in detail.)

As for the original topic, I don't use FB so no prison for me

I never understand why people hide behind facebook and other social platforms to make derogatory comments and argue.

My sis in law does it and it is pathetic.

Comes under cyber bullying I believe, which has just been upgraded as a more serious form of bullying so I can understand why people who do it get banned. I'm sure now you can get prosecuted for it.

So, does that mean the cyber bullying ( typing words on a screen) is now a more serious offence than actual bullying ( picking on someone in person) ?

Stop the world...I want to get off!

Facebook is crammed with overly sensitive snowflakes. Many, it seems, actively look out for things that offend them so they can complain and get a huge feeling of satisfaction from it.

Pathetic this world we live in. Millenials, hipsters, snowflakes. Man the fuck up. Sorry gender fluidity the fuck up.

The rules on fb are pathetic .I think they just make them up as they go along.

I'm not on it.

My modelling page on Insta got banned at 35k followers

I kept in their silly rules.

It happened just after I posted and lingerie pic in the Hilton in Manchester and I think they reported it

Facebook are quick to ban ordinary people for the slightest "infringement" yet they leave terrorist videos up for ages.

I have never had a ban on there, but I hardly use it.

Same kind of thinking in the USA that bans people from alcohol until they are 21 but has shops openly selling unlicensed guns for anyone to carry.
