Is it me or is terrible spelling a big turn off. I am well educated myself and I know my spelling is far from brilliant as I struggle with it. But I find it a huge turn off when your talking to someone and really have to concentrate hard to try and understand what there saying..

for example phrases like "firs teme met"

or "i tolk to u" or "we read your pirofail very nice"

There some of the not so bad phrases I get, is it just me or is this a big turn off.. makes a possible meet feel cheap to me. xx

I'm no great academic, but one of my few claims to fame while at school was spelling.

It's a simply fact that a lot of people couldn't spell to save themselves, grammar is a mystery to many, as is punctuation. A lot of people also don't check what they've typed before pressing the 'send' button.

These aren't criticisms, simply observations, so no offence is intended.

a turn off, no, but it is jaring. Shows a lack of education or laziness most of the time

I'm reasonably well educated, but dyslexic and not one with the best keyboard skills in the world, but I have a spell checker program incorporated into the browser, so anything that comes up that's mistyped can be corrected with ease. Doesn't help the grammar, but it does stop me looking a complete plonker. As whole we don't usually reply to the text speak messages unless, they say they are contacting us by a phone application.

little house on the praire

My spelling is shit, but it is words and not sentences. If i am on the forums i dont bother checking anything and my spelling is extremely creative at times. But if it is something that matters then i think about it or i check if there is something i am unable to spell.

Yeah I'm dyslexic too, and really struggle spelling. I don't mind the odd spelling and grammar mistake, it's when it is in text speech and terribly bad. Things like some of my examples
