How about a simple, adult approach like "What are your thoughts on anal sex?"?

Ask if they might try it. If yes proceed with great caution and lots of lube. Anal can be extremely painful if not done with care and attention and if you plunge in and hurt your partner in the first go it'll probably be you last too. Start with something small and work your way to bigger things. Have the receiver push as though trying to expel a recalcitrant turd as this stops the sphincter tightening up. Read about it elsewhere to gather more data.

Emptying the bowels first can make it a more pleasant experience and for the ultimate in cleanliness consider an enema (although this itself can be rather messy and does have it's own risks you should read up about).
