I've become more intrigued by vintage stockings (and lingerie).

Is the quality and overall feeling of vintage stockings superior to modern day ones?

From what I can tell, nylon stockings have a more luxurious look.

I'm hoping some experts can shed some light on the topic

I wear Gio or Cervin FFN or RHT nylons, they have that vintage feel, but the really special eye catching style us the Manhattan.

Try some of the web shops.

I'm hoping some experts can shed some light on the topic

I am a big fan of vintage stockings if especially the fully fashioned seamed ones. They are very expensive compared to modern day ones and often have less stretch so you have to buy the right size almost exactly.

There is just something about them that I really enjoy.

I think the 40-50"s ones were nylon but then when they added Lycra to stretch they became better fitting if that makes sense.

Playfullsam calls it.. vintage nylons did not have Lycra and had seams. They require a decent suspender belt, minimum 6 strap to keep them in place and if seamed, keep the seams in line.

Of course it’s just not possible to wear seamed stockings without everyone who takes even a passing interest, knowing. On the one hand a very subtle statement but because they are loaded with such erotic potential, a very obvious statement.

There is so much to enjoy, from the reinforced foot, which emphasises the shape of the foot and instep, to the suspender clasps bulging under a tight pencil skirt..

When you wear fuly fashioned (our fav is Gio havanna heel). Even with six or 8 strap suspender belt.

Top tip spray hairspray on the seam once fully straight helps to keep them in place even through those passionate moments which follow when you allow anyone past the laughter line

Fully fashioned nylons with a seam are just soooooo delicious to wear, to touch, to look at, to hear them swishing against each other and - best of all - to feel them swishing against the legs of another who's wearing!

We love nylons as you can tell, they are a lot more expensive but you can feel the difference as they are more silky and don't fall down as easy as long as you have a 6 strap due to no lycra

I am also a fan of vintage stockings. The difference between them and modern ones is, Vintage nylons to not have any elastic, they do not stretch, as they are 100% nylon and are tailored to the shape of the leg. When us girls sit down they the vintage stockings crease behind the knee, which look ever so elegant and sexy. Most of all, the welts are smooth, shiny and sheer which out class all modern ones. Someone with a shoe size 8 like myself, need a size 11 stocking.

Ever since as a 10 year old boy seeing a glimpse of my school teacher's stocking tops in 1969, I have been hooked on vintage nylons ever since.

Had the weirdest/nicest experience on the London Underground last year when a man behind me on the escalator tapped me on the shoulder and gave me a pair of Agent Provacateur stockings that he had bought for his girlfriend and she refused to wear them. Made my day!

They are pricey. I found a pair on eBay, vintage nylon. Probably no the finest quality, but certainly lovely. So sheer and silky feeling. Love them, must have more ! X

Muse is a massive retro lingerie fan, love popping into to WKD's little boutique in Portobello, if you haven't yet, have a look at Hepburn & Leigh and Rago shape wear, some lovely vintage style stuff on both.

I'm a bit of a fanatic and I have loads of vintage style stockings. Some of mine are from eBay (Levante, Fiorre, and some unbranded ones), Anne Summers, etc.

I get disappointed when I see Seamed Tights..... Urrrgh... Personally, I think tights look awful on me and I always feel a bit let down when I see these in the shops. The same goes for the Mock Suspenders.... Yuck!!

I like the Levante ones as they seem to be a bit more robust.
