Unsolicited friend requests...

Can someone please explain to me the purpose of an unsolicited friend request?! You’ve never spoken or had any interation at all but there appears a friend request....what does this achieve? (I mostly ignore and move on but curiosity bids me ask)

A full friends list makes them look popular or any activity on your profile shows up on their friends feed.
