"I often wear stockings or hold ups at work, I have done for years. I find them more comfortable, and I often meet hubby for lunch, which can quite often involve some fun, so he likes it too. I’ve never had a problem with wearing them to work, I do it discretely, normally under a pencil skirt or fitted dress. However, someone noticed the other day I was wearing them, as apparently I was sat cross legged and my stocking tops were showing slightly. I didn’t think this would be an issue, but it’s become apparent that the person who spotted it has now done their best to tell everyone in work, and to make it worse, I’m apparently wearing them to seduce my boss. This has really annoyed and upset me, because it’s nothing to do with anyone else what underwear I’m wearing, it shouldn’t be a big deal - they’re just stockings, and most of all because I have absolutely no interest in my boss and to start a rumour like that is just wrong. I know who it is that’s spread the rumour, because friends at work have told me, so I’m going to confront the person and deal with it, but I really shouldn’t have been put in this situation. If anyone on here noticed someone at work I stockings would you think it’s a big deal? I’m fairly sure it’s more common than many small minded people think." "Don’t want to cause an issue by complaining upwards. I’m senior to the person who’s started the rumour, so I’ll deal with them. It’s more annoying that they are so small minded! As someone posted above, clearly too much time on their hands! It has made me a little self conscious of what I wear to work though " In that case...discipline them and still speak to your boss to avoid misunderstandings on their behalf. Some people are simply petty and small minded. Nita

Nita" I'd be inclined to say to the boss to deal with it, who knows what bs this worm will revert to, best have a clear daylight between you and your complaint rather than muddy the waters and be accused of something else too. They're clearly not nature enough to handle themselves appropriately when they did have the opportunity to do so, if they feel cornered by you, who knows what they will be like. As someone has already said, be careful how you discipline this idiot, as that might cause you some trouble. Don't leave yourself open. I'd speak to your boss and let them deal with it.

"Surely it’s no different to wearing tights but with a bit more fresh air? " I think it must feel naughtier and sexier and adds to the ladies confidence.

"Surely it is no one else's business what you wear to work is it? Just people meddling...ignore them." there's reputational issues (lies) at play here with the op, so ignoring the issues isn't a option in my view, likewise that of a good few others here too.

"I used to have a manager who would regularly wear stockings and suspenders at work (I should add that the manager was female). She also use to wear rather thin dresses so that it was pretty obvious. She wasn't particularly flirty, but I often wondered why she did it, whether she liked people noticing, or if they made her feel attractive." Perhaps she enjoyed the day to day thrill ?

"It's because in history stockings have been considered being worn by whores or only worn for sexual reasons (obviously wrongly). I wear stockings nearly every day and most of the time nylons which are definitely not seen regularly these days! I do get a lot of looks from women thinking I am a hussy and men who obviously think I am advertising myself for sex but I wear them for me because they are part of me, what I like and my personality! I had an issue with a suspender belt snapping the other day and ended up going to an underwear shop who were surprised when I asked if they had any belts!! Ha!!! I would say be yourself, don't let them judge you for being you they are only jealous you look so good! Jayne xx " Jayne may I say you look amazing in them too

" This sounds like the best plan to me, you definitely need a 3rd party involved and you can't really discipline them yourself without them having ground for appeal due to bias.

It was nothing to do with you or anyone else, and everything to do with feeling good about herself. Why do men think the way a woman dresses is about them, rather than her?
