How often do you post what you think is a pertinent or funny contribution to a thread, only for it to be passed over without comment, while a contribution making EXACTLY the same point five posts later is quoted and responded to multiple times as if it was the distilled essence of Nietzsche’s Greatest Thoughts?

All the time. I think it actually happens to everyone but we don't notice because we are too focused on ourselves.

It should be socially acceptable to just go quote and comment on your own remarks, bring them back to the forefront for those who missed them

I have had conversations about this kind of thing with other users. The consensus is that often lurkers will read a thread more fully than some (not all) of the contributors.

I’ve seen myself talk to users who refer to a long lost (apparently ignored at the time) contribution I’ve made.

Quite a lot.

Now ... there are some fun threads whose subject matter means they're often fast moving and it's therefore completely understandable that people are overlooked. Who cares. However, when the instigator of a thread specifically invites thoughtful opinion but then appears to ignore replies from anyone they don't fancy and/or they're not already pally with, it can feel a tad rude. Specifically, like you say, when you make a point or provide an answer (apparently in invisible virtual ink) which is later repeated almost word for word by someone else and seized upon as a thing of wonder with a big dollop of flattery thrown in too.

*But* ... such is the dynamic of any forum - it's not too surprising on a site like this that some people will always wait until the object(s) of their desire show up before responding. I only ever post when I don't care if I'm acknowledged or not. Which does often mean I think about posting a hell of a lot more than I actually do ...

I get this a lot. I rarely bother to contribute much anymore for this reason. It could be I offer nothing constructive but I also notice that a lot in the group will either look at my profile or message me privately but not acknowledge in the post.

It happens all the time , and it truly depends on the popularity of the poster . It doesn’t mean you aren’t popular , it just means the person who says what you said earlier is ‘more’ popular amongst the regular posters .

Ask yourself this - does it matter ? Do you really care ? If it does matter and you do care , step away for a few days and you’ll realise how much it really doesn’t !

When I first starting using the forums the popcorn crowd were on everything. On occasion, one particular person used to make me laugh with his description of how he was eating his popcorn and watching from the corner.

It did get ridiculous though.

"How often do you post what you think is a pertinent or funny contribution to a thread, only for it to be passed over without comment, while a contribution making EXACTLY the same point five posts later is quoted and responded to multiple times as if it was the distilled essence of Nietzsche’s Greatest Thoughts?

*Hunger may be affecting my attitude.

Nope, it's happened to me. I just presume there's a bit of a clique, so it might take a little while for people to get use to a new profile contributing to the thread... I'm hard faced enough, not to give a shite tbh

I think I’m feeling delicate today. Great profile pic btw."

Thank you very much hunny. Kind of you to say X

" Happens to us ALL the time.

The invisible forum couple we seem to be, but we will keep contributing to the cause of trying to make it a happy smiley place.

And now I have to admit that I haven’t seen you posting before. Sorry! Will look out for you in the future."

As I say, the invisible couple, but please don't waste your time looking out for us, we rarely have anything interesting to say, hence why we commented on you post.

"All the time. I think it actually happens to everyone but we don't notice because we are too focused on ourselves.

It should be socially acceptable to just go quote and comment on your own remarks, bring them back to the forefront for those who missed them "

Brilliant.

I actually did this once because I was feeling ignored and unloved. I gave myself a thumbs up.

Happens to me on a daily basis. I've had people say almost the exact thing I've said after me and they get quoted and talked to. Most TVs on this forum just get blanked over all the time, I know quite a few have noticed this so I'm not alone in my thinking "

I wish there was a 'Like' button for posts because I think people would be pleasantly surprised that they aren't ignored after all. I would thumbs up many posts but I'd get a ban for spamming.

I usually reply to the comment and not the poster so I don't realise if I'm always agreeing -or disagreeing- with the same person.

Will spend a late evening metaphorically patting myself on the back I think..

Plus bumping my ‘You know you’ve been swinging too long when..’ thread.

God no! I can’t really do cliques. I do think being (or not being) young and hot has an effect too.

Problem with forums are it's very cliquey. You see same people time over and they don't, reply unless in their circle. Very off putting to those finding their feet here.

A little, but it is more about how popular you try and make yourself, and it is very clique oriented, but I think changing a little. I get a few replies to posts from people who Darent post in the forum so pm instead because they're worried about getting ridiculed.

Do you genuinely find that off putting? More so than the brutal dissecting of opinions?

Goes through stages of feeling cliquey on here. I’d say it’s nowhere near as cliquey as it was a year or so ago.

I generally notice I get ignored more if I’ve been off fabs for a while and / or on the back of a big forum social, people then seem to interact more with those they’ve met up with.

Fabbing comments would be good. Apart from the fact men would fab hotties by default.
