I think it's hope rather than assumption but, then again, when contacting a couple, it's always better to address them both initially

If you're laid in bed at 6am with a hangover horn or just a simple morning glory, your train of thought might not be that clear cut though

I always address both parties, however a lot of couples profiles are fake too, you can't win sometimes. Just a shame, I always thought this was a swinging site.
