In Westernised societies adults will indulge their sexual fantasies through a variety of VR tools. Long term relationships will decrease significantly as people develop a wide variety of functional relationships to satisfy different sexual (and non-sexual) needs.

Marriage and LTRs will be for reasons other than sex and formal partnerships, either marriage or civil, will be heavily incentivised by the state.

Really interesting post Tigerlilly. In a way I think we are already well down the path of divorcing sexual pleasure from marriage. I can’t see this being reversed. From a woman’s position especially it seems to me that different qualities are often required to meet her emotional and sexual needs.

That's interesting.

Marriage has only recently been contracted on the basis of romantic love , I'd welcome a return to a more pragmatic approach where terms and conditions were negotiated at the start. I think there's a case for arranged marriage of some description. We need to move away from this notion that two people can rely on love to conquer all.

Really futuristic viewpoints so far. Depends on what one's definition of swinging is. If you look at it in an old fashioned simplistic way where swinging evolved from couples enjoying shared sex with other couples then swinging hasn't really changed that much and probably won't in the future. To be successful marriages need to be strong. No amount of technology and easier access can change this fundamental foundation.

VR sex will have numerous unforeseen ramifications. It feeling much much more realistic, many people who try it, and almost everyone will, will feel a sense of guilt from doing it... of having cheated on their partner. This may lead to a lessening of interest in VR sex in the same way that 3d film has consistently failed to take off. Or it may lead to an explosion of thirst to really cheat with real people.

Another side effect of VR porn is that the VR women who men fuck will act in the way their male fantasies demand, not in the way real women would. And the VR men women fuck will be the same, although potentially less so. In men in particular I see it leading to utterly unrealistic sexist and demeaning expectations of women. "Hey! My VR woman does xyz! Why can't you?!?"

Luckily I think there's likely to be a backlash against the increasing technologising of our lives by future generations. So I eventually see a return to sanity

Gradually. More documentaries on it, then it'd appear in soaps/sitcoms, movies etc. A few minor celebs, a pride-style event. It'll become glamourised by social media influencers, and then mainstream.

Personally i don't think polyamory will ever be remotely main stream. I've never seen any evidence it works especially well for anyone but a handful for people. For example, watch a documentary on it and even the practitioners are just talking about how hard it is to control emotions and how much effort it takes. In simple terms, modern life doesn't allow most people the time for multiple relationships. I could see other forms of ethical non-mongamy growing. I think the current situation is absolute madness. We all pretend that monogamy is the best system and then a tiny percentage of us actually stick to it!! Serial monogamy, the actual system we have, is not monogamy.

People will be swinging via their ps11 consoles. In Japan it has been documented that the males are already showing less interest in engaging in sex and relationships. This is largely influenced by their flat economy and males not feeling that they are able to financially support a family and delaying patriarchal responsibilities thus extending their juvenile stage of life.
