Surely the second B is subjective and is for another person to apply it?

I don’t use BBW - I prefer ‘plus size’

But it’s just a label, so I don’t really see that it matters!

Beautiful is definitely subjective and the big part could be too. What one person considers is big would be average to others.

I'm not a fan of labels but it does serve a purpose. It's become an accepted term for larger ladies as a way of describing them without (hopefully) causing any offense. I'd rather someone describe me as a bbw than a fatty

If someone decides to call themselves BBW, VWE, BBC, what does it matter and more importantly, why does it matter to you?

Anyone can describe themselves as how they like, as a previous poster said 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder' and we all find attractive traits in everyone, regardless of what they look like.

If you don't like it, move on to the next profile.

I don’t like the acronym myself, I prefer to say I’m a large lady, the second B is so tenuous and opens people up to criticism for not being everyone’s idea of “beautiful”

Well as it primarily means Big Boned Woman from the 60s and then made popular after a song by Ray LaMontagne was released so the B for boned can be applied to oneself if you have large bones.

I'm not sure if I've misunderstood you or if perhaps you didn't phrase your post particularly well, so forgive me if I've got the wrong end of the stick.

Should a 'BBW' be allowed to call herself a 'BBW' or should she wait until someone else bestows her with that title? I personally don't like the term, and describe myself as a fat bird, but do I have the right to call myself that or do I have to wait for someone else to bestow me with that title?

In the same spirit, is it right that a tall, dark and handsome guy describes himself as tall, dark and handsome or should he wait until someone else gives him that label? Likewise, for the 'BBC' profile - surely the first 'B' is also subjective, so is it right to be a self proclaimed 'BBC'?

I'd say yes, it's right to describe ourselves the way we see ourselves - some will agree with that opinion, and others won't.

I don't think you have the wrong end of the stick and no, I don't think I have been remiss in how I have phrased the question since I am not 'stating' that it should or should not be allowed (I hardly feel that it is my place to decide for others) I simply ask the question and invite views or own opinions.

Subjective could be applied to the 'big' or the 'beautiful and in some cases here in Fab maybe even the woman (settle down...humour!)

But as all things are subjective or dependent on others having similar views or opinions to those who proclaim their own clarity of themselves (be it size or appearance) it is for the individuals to choose their own status or label and for others to like it or resent it. In my opinion.

It was just a random thought that I wondered if we might share.....

I think there is a simple difference between a lady who may refer to herself as a 'BBW ' and a man who says he is 6ft and in reality he is not or a man claiming straight sucking cock. The former is giving an opinion of herself that she wishes others to consent with and considers herself so to be. The latter is a liar or at best deceiving parties to be included when he fails a required criteria.

....and ultimately I think that this is probably about right.

It is a form of recommendation, advertising and creating an interest.

To say I am a Big Beautiful Woman is to advertise what is on offer in its most appealing description. After all if you said I am a fat lump but have a respectable mush then it may not give out the apt invitation.

Now there is without doubt some women who very definitely are both big & beautiful equally there are some who claim this label and are, in my view, wrong!

They are just a big lump and frequently have a less than respectable mush.

So my point is .... the issue I have with the phrase is that it us being hijacked by those who can 'hide' behind it and not actually represent it.

For those who do actually represent it they are stealing your label and detracting from its value.
