Just had an update on Windows 10 on our laptop. Great.

Reboots and now won't connect to Wi-Fi with Wi-Fi wireless connection saying off and cannot turn it on.

Now, ordinarily, perhaps a trip to local PC repair shop but what do us swingers do? There's a lot of "intimate" photos and "very interesting" visited websites we've regularly viewed.

What to do?!

Check for updates. Could be the driver software just needs to update to work with Windows 10. Had so.e teething issues when we updated, great now.

Plug it in to the hub via good old fashioned cable then uninstall reinstall wifi card

Can't connect to Wi-Fi to check for updates. It was an update that seems to have caused issue as no problems before.

Will give it another go though, thanks.

I would heartily recommend having a look at trying out Linux Mint as a replacement for Windows. It seems drastic but honestly the learning curve is almost nil and the help available is fantastic. Best of all you can try it on your current set up without having to install it

Try updating your wifi driver and also check to make sure any old vpn services you are using are outdated. If that doesn’t work try deleting your reg...

Comand-run as admin- type: reg delete HKCR\CLSID\{988248f3-a1ad-49bf-9170-676cbbc36ba3} /va /f

Then hit enter

Then type: netcfg -v -u dni_dne

Then hit enter and click the exit box.

Restart your device and all should be ok

Could try using your phone as a hotspot to connect to the internet and then update.

Ok, so there was a Windows 10 error that caused lan and WiFi drivers to break.

The fix was to re-install the drivers.

You’d need to go into device manager and locate the name of the network adapters.

From there you’ll need to download drivers for that on another computer (one that can get to the internet) and then copy across on a memory stick to instal the drivers and get going

Use a patch lead and plug it straight into the router...

Failing of an update is usually driver related but what you can do is uninstall the update of windows 10 by going back to your previous setup. Update all drivers and then do the windows 10 update .

If this is the same update that I experienced across 600 computers then it will be just a uninstall and reinstall of driver from the manufactures website.

Doing rebuilds and roll backs will be very time consuming and risky!

My son is a pc repair technician, there are codes of conduct and strict confidentiality rules to adhere too, especially with the new GDPR rules.

Believe me. It won't be anything the techie won't have seen before :D

Try uninstalling and reinstalling your WI-fI drivers.

If what I said is greek to you look for somebody you trust who is good with computers. Don't let them take the laptop away. Stay with them as they repair it. Then they can't be nosey.

Right click on network connections control panel

Disable WiFi

Then enable

Also check the switch on your laptop or FN key shortcut is on.

Windows will then detect it again.

If not need to access device manager a d uninstall then let it auto install
