What is a time waster

I winked at a witty profile and was contacted by them, I at no time requested a meet as I was happy with the people I know. we spoke for a short time and I told the lady this only to get an abusive message ,saying I was a time waster and no right to reply as I am blocked.?

Was I in the wrong?

You didn’t deserve abuse.

I sometimes see a status message on profiles saying ‘not wanting meets for now’. That may be useful in preventing repetition of this.

nobody deserves abuse but a wink to say profile was witty, why not just send a message saying profile was witty....... Not sure I get that but abuse for it noooooooo

You will have been blocked before you just don't know it. As for abuse well we only have your side of the story and from what you have said maybe you didn't deserve it they may have a different tale to tell I will say its not really classy coming on here complaining about it.

Ditto or "I/we like the look of you". Sounds like there was some miscommunication between you two about what the wink meant Ignore it, move on

A time waster is someone who arranges a meet but doesn't turn up. But the term seems to get thrown about for any imagined slight.

Personally, sending a ‘wink’ to someone wouldn’t necessarily mean I want to meet, it’s more of a I like what I see/read can we make contact.

I think there has been an overreaction unfortunately OP

I never look at my winks personally. No one on this site deserves any sort of abuse but some supposedly grown ups think it's clearly acceptable. If someone isn't right for you, block delete and move on, no need for ignorance. Sorry to hear this OP.

Maybe next time establish early on that you just want to chat? Then they can make an informed decision about whether they want to continue exchanging messages..

A timewaster is someone invites you to an event, bangs on about timewasters and how he's only going to invite people who are definitely going to turn up, tells you he'll give you the address later, ignores you from then on then blocks you when you politely ask how the arrangements are going!!!
