Wanderlust BBC One non-monogamy drama

Interesting to see a TV drama about to be aired from next week on BBC One that is based on a non-monogamy theme.

According to press articles, " The plot revolves around a middle class couple, Alan and Joy Richards, who reassess their relationship after Joy has a serious cycling accident. Frustrated that their sex life had dwindled to nothing, she suggests that they have an open relationship. Having embarked on her erotic voyage of discovery, Joy initially thinks she has found the perfect method of balancing a loving marriage and sexual fulfilment but finds herself wrestling with big questions. Can you really love more than one person? How might your actions affect your family? "

I thought that those comments make it sounds like non-monogamy is being presented as a way to 'spice up' a flat-lining relationship and also a route into polyamory rather than non-monogamy being used to enhance an already fulfilling relationship.

I'll reserve judgement until next week but I do hope that it opens a few more minds to non-monogamy in general and might be the start of legitimising swinging (in its various forms) in the eyes of people who have always wanted to give it a try but have been put off by the stigma that it currently holds in some circles.

That sounds interesting.

For myself I'm not too bothered about the way I live my life being considered mainstream or acceptable. I will be interested to see if the story is presented in the form of a modern day parable though. Eg don't do this bad thing or it won't go well.

I've only ever loved my husband. I've had play partners and cared about them alot but never loved them. I think if it's agreed between husband and wife and it spices things up then it's good. Sometimes feelings can get in the way though. I will definitely watch this programme x

Watched the first two episodes of this today.

I think the blurb is a bit misleading. They are in a committed relationship where they love each other, however their sex life is non-existent. They both cheat, then have a discussion about how it made them feel (she's a counsellor) and decide to try with the other relationships in addition.

There is a good bit in the second episode where they have both gone out on their date night and come back full of passion for each other.

It's going to be interesting to see where it leads.

I watched it last night. Some bits are true, like the lust for your partner when you get home.

Wonder how many new couples will join fab after watching it

Watching this with hope that they don't ruin it with being judgmental about the facts off open relationships. Also it has been incredibly funny at times and gets some things absolutely right.

Will continue to watch with hope

It certainly seems to have sparked debate about mutually consensual non-monogamy and the various forms it takes, including swinging.

Interesting article in the Sun that was written as a response to Wanderlust.

We've noticed a lots of new members over the last week or so - may just be a coincidence but we've both said "wonder how people will join the site off after watching this"

We enjoyed it. Typically on a BBC show the last moment gives the suggestion of a season two.

I really loath the BBC so really couldn't stomach a piece of fiction on it. But questions like

"Can you really love more than one person?" are not really complicated at all, other than how they are phrased. Nobody ever asks, "if you get pregnant with a second child, would you really have enough love for them or would you just have to love your first child less".

I haven’t watched this programme but I do hope that any upsurge in users here, do not have the same effect as the whole “50 shades” thing did on the kink community.

I’m all for more people expanding their minds and exploring, so anything that begins a debate is good.

My concern is that too much too soon, is like giving a child a chemistry set with enriched uranium.

Great post.

We are really enjoying the programme and also wondered whether it might open some minds.

Did find it a bit far fetched though that both of them managed to cop off so easily with other people in vanilla life;and why, if it is just about sex, they didn't go down the swinging route instead of jeopardising their marriage with one other significant partner.

But maybe that is the point - were they just looking for sex or was it love? But it's clear they do love each other.

Interesting topic, thanks for bringing it up

Seen it up to episode 3 so far. It's a bit cliched as to how the author sees it all going terribly pear shaped, but hoping it doesn't go down the swinging is bad bad bad and nothing good will come of it root. I suspect that is where it is heading.......... Don't spoil it LOL.

Do you think people shouldn't try something out to see if it's for them?

Should they join a club and dive straight in?

It's a drama and will have to be filled with drama, or no body will watch it.

Start with a gangbang and work up from there

I didn’t say people shouldn’t.

As for joining a club, my advice to anyone attending a club for the first time, is not to think I’m terms of “jumping in” rather to go along with an open mind and just observe. By the end of the night, many have taken the plunge anyway but without the pressure or misconceptions some have before their first visit.

We watched it.

Great drama. The connection between them after the have both been out with others is hot!

Been there! Done that! It was well portrayed.

I loved all the different relationships of all the family members too.

I'd love them to make another series

I would have thought that joining here would be a good way of getting information.
