Tv/ts are always put together? Aren't they completely different things?

Yeah, they are. They’re also kind of offensive terms!

The ‘transsexuals’ that I know have told me that it’s an offensive term and that the proper term is transgender.

Also, to call someone a transvestite as well sounds pretty offensive to me...

Yep and outdated terminology.

I understand why Fab lumps trans people together to keep things tidy but there's a huge difference between a cross dresser, a transvestite and transgender person

The community is driving difference in identifying how they feel and see themselves, which I think is a good idea personally. The web sites are finding it hard to keep up with the new terminology though.

Might go and mail admin. See if it can change.

Also yeah, I was told by a trans friend that transsexual is pretty off term bc sexuality is obvs a completely separate thing from gender. I'm not sure how trans folk on here feel about the outdated terminology but it kinda bugs me.

Might sound uneducated but trans... Transformation.. sexually.. changing sex.. I'm guessing vestite means some term of clothing?

It doesn't offend me. If people want to know how I see myself then they can, oh I don't know, maybe have a conversation about it.

I would add though, the word transsexual is saying absolutely nothing about anyone's sexuality. "Sexual" in this context is so obviously a synonym for gender. Jeez.

"Trans-" as a prefix means beyond across. Vestite is from the Latin vestire which means clothing.

So literally, transvestite just means cross-dresser.

I get that else all gay men and women would technically be classified as transexual

I heard on the news that the London Underground will no longer use the term 'ladies and gentlemen' when announcing to make it gender-neutral by using 'good morning everyone' instead

Good move i say.

My brother has been transitioning for the past 3 years I've not seen him for the past 2 years. Not because of that but due to us both moving to oposit ends of the country.. it still came as a shock when I found out he left his Mrs and my neice to move in with a guy.. I should get back in touch with her soon for a few drinks and a catch up

Yes there is a huge difference between. I know many people in the trans community. Cross dressing per say is very different to someone that seeks the route to physically change into the body they feel they should have been born into. I’m pretty sure everyone in the TV/TS category as it stands would like it to change. Not that I’m a fan of any ‘label’ regarding sexuality but would probably aid everyone’s experience on Fab too.
