Interesting thread this. I’ve always been a straight male and comfortable with that but I’ve recently been doing lots of reading on the fluidity of sex and how it’s not as black and white as we learn it in school

For my part, I'm comfortable that my gender matches my identity. I have masculine aspects of my identity and feminine, but I identify as female.

It gives me the creeps to still see the word 'female' used as a noun. *shudders*

I sit pretty much on the fence on this. I fully respect everyones right to identify and behave how they want, but I think people should also be allowed to indentify others how they like.

For example, I see videos of people online lose their shit when being called sir, when they look like a man. Id always try to be respectfull, but sometime you look at someone and dont know what you are supposed to say.

I do believe that male and female labels are reference to your physique, so if you have a penis you are a man, but you still have the right to to dress, act and identify how you like.

I also consider myself straight, but have seen some sexy as fook trans people (nicole maines)

I'd like to be able to celebrate being a woman without being told I'm being an exclusionist terf. I've crewed at so many TV/trans friendly events, when I'm called a bigot for saying I have a vagina it feels like it was all a giant waste of time. I realised quite early on in life that not everything in the world was about me. I'd just like to be able to do me, that's all. I've always wanted to be inclusive and this stuff feels really divisive.

Hi, my name is B and I’m a gender odd ball!

Haha I’m sure they meant to cause offence with that term but it suits me quite well! I’m genderqueer which isn’t the same as being fluid but I totally move through and celebrate my masc/femme/androgynous traits on different days.

Lots of love to all the trans*/gender-non-conforming folk on here.

It’s bloody hard work trying to get people to respect my gender and I hope with time it will get easier. Being part of fab rather than just existing in a queer bubble reminds me how far we still have to go!

It does seem to be getting confusing this huge spectrum of gender labels popping up. I am all for people being themselves but it does get tedious for me as a gay/ bicurious man being automatically lumped in with it all....sexuality and gender are two different things yet we are all lumped in. What I strongly disagree with is schools imposing a gender neutral approach on all children though

People take the piss massively out of gays and many gays are humorous with it. Gender people on the other hand are far too uptight and resort to calling police at the drop of a hat.

Gender people? Whatever do you mean?

Look whilst I appreciate that after decades of persecution and life being fucking terrible, cis-gay men are now largely accepted into society and in some communities don’t need to worry about death or abuse, that simply isn’t the case for trans*/GNC people at the moment. People are simply fighting for their rights to exist and be seen as they see themselves. Something that many, many people have fought for to enable you to have the light hearted approach you have today.

There’s loads of humour and comedy in our community, it’s how we stay strong but I for one won’t put up with threats, abuse or violence to appear jovial

I do not know where to start with this. Gay men are still being beaten up and murdered and being hated in their own homes and the work place, despite laws.

I came out in 1996 as a 16 years old had grown men threatening to break my legs. I had a girl in college say I should be set on fire. I have been ignored, ridiculed and had various professional jobs undermined and destroyed in past years.

So before making assumptions that I am riding on the coat tails of those who have suffered in order to have the humour I do, take a breath.

No one is saying put up with death threats for god’s sake but on the other hand people can’t blink these days without threat of police and it is NOT winning hearts and minds, it is feeding a simmering resentment that one day could boil over

There certainly aren't as many as modern gender theory suggests, I'm sure last i looked into it there were 70-80 different listed genders(and growing)! That's just ridiculous.

You know ANYONE can literally use any public toilet if they really want to. Don’t use your kids as a cover for your prejudice. Own it

You’d think by now people would respect each and everyone of us. It doesn’t matter what gender, colour, sexuality, or anything else anyone is - we all bleed the same blood!

If people don’t have anything nice to say, then they shouldn’t say anything at all!

I'm sure they exist, but I've never noticed one personally.

Currently 90% of establishments with toilet facilities only have Male or Female

No.

There is nothing in law that reserves a toilet for the exclusive use of any particular group.

The Equality Act 2010 requires proprietors of non-domestic premises to make reasonable attempts to ensure people with a disability are catered for.

Many do this by creating a unisex toilet. The sign tells you the toilet is adapted for use by someone in a wheelchair. Nothing more.

Usually a lot more space than conventional toilets.

Unisex toilets also exist on the likes of trains, aeroplanes, buses etc.

Some people have more chips than Harry Ramsdens.

I regard myself as pansexual. I respect everyone else and their identity and only ask that they respect mine.

There’s no need for name calling or any form of hostility towards others who do not identify as you do.

People need to be more tolerant of one another however sadly, when hiding behind the anonymity of a computer, some people seem unable to show any tolerance or respect.

On the subject of gender politics, I read this today about Saudi Arabia on the BBC:

"On Sunday, the Saudi ministry of municipalities said that restaurants would no longer need to maintain sex-segregated entrances. Instead it would be left up to businesses to decide. Until now, inside restaurants, families and women were usually cut off and separated from men on their own by screens."

Restauarants had to have separate entrances for men and women, and to segregate the dining area.

Reminds me of South Africa, to be honest.

I thought pan sexual was a sexuality, not a gender? Or am i misunderstanding?

Intersex. You can have male and female genitalia. You can have inverted testies and a vagina. You can have testicles and a womb. Also you can have people raised as males with a very high oestrogen levels and vice versa. “Sex” is not column that you stand in but more a sliding scale within which you place.

I think they are all single person use anyways, if so it wouldn't really matter to me.

I think allowing fully grown adults born with penises to enter toilets with young/little girls is asking for trouble

It relies on the honour system, that they won't misbehave. Just like leaving your doors open and unlocked - 99.9% of people wouldn't steal your things, but we lock doors for the 0.1%

Whilst the 0.1% aren't representative of the population as a whole with regards to stealing, we still lock our doors.

Locking your doors doesn't mean your bigoted, or that you are calling the rest of the population theives, it's just exercising caution.

Most of those identyfing as Trans women, are doing it for genuine reasons, but a tiny percentage of these are deviants are using it to gain access to spaces they wouldn't usually have access to

Jessica Yaniv should be taken as a warning.

I subscribe to Blair White on YouTube and think she has this fairly pegged, if anyone's interested

Kleinfelders(spelling) and intersex are genetic anomalies, so they aren't really the same thing tbh

I’m with you on this, live n let live is definitely my moto but grown ups with dicks should not be using the same toilets as a 8yr old girl!

For instance..... Sat in mcd’s and a parent sends their 8yr old daughter to the ladies, old enough to go a pee alone but certainly shouldn’t be sharing those facilities with a person with a dick......... I hate to say it but you’ll get pervs/paedo’s just dressing to take advantage of this

Statistically she is more likely to be under threat from a person she knows or is related to and these days is way more in danger using the internet from paedophiles than a unisex toilet I'm afraid.

Bringing up children to think all men are bad or rude has it's own huge societal problems, much better bringing them up to be open minded individuals that understand the dangers but don't tar every man with the same brush

"

Wary, yes.

But instinct tells me a male seeking to prey on children will find less difficult ways to sate their desire than going to the bother of dressing up as a woman, getting their legal status altered etc and choosing public toilets where the risk of discovery must be high.

It's all about finding a balance between the risk and the freedom.

It is already hidden in plain sight anyway - people in transition use the facilities designated for their acquired gender and have done for generations.

Statistically, the risk must be very small - multiply the probability of someone being transgender and the probability of someone being a peadophile. Neither makes up a huge number, as far as I know.

Then consider the desire not to be detected, arrested and imprisoned for their peadophile characteristic, and the probability of the scenario you describe in a public place becomes very very unlikely, I'd suggest.

It might help stop them, by not allowing such deviants into the spaces. That's common sense

If the sticker on the door is so unimportant, then why do TV/TS care which sticker is on toilet they use?

In guessing it's more important than your are trying to imply.

LIKE I SAID my older boy has only been going into the gents more recently (he’s now 12) because he’s now old enough and too old for the ladies

Please read my comments if you’re going to reply to them

I think allowing fully grown adults born with penises to enter toilets with young/little girls is asking for trouble

You do know this is happening today, and has been for decades?

Can you point to the trouble it has caused?

No, I'm not familiar with any - I did use the words "asking for"

But are you honestly suggesting you don't see the possible danger?

I’m with you on this, live n let live is definitely my moto but grown ups with dicks should not be using the same toilets as a 8yr old girl!

For instance..... Sat in mcd’s and a parent sends their 8yr old daughter to the ladies, old enough to go a pee alone but certainly shouldn’t be sharing those facilities with a person with a dick......... I hate to say it but you’ll get pervs/paedo’s just dressing to take advantage of this

Now that is offensive.

No it’s not offensive, how !?

it’s a well known FACT that there’s more male perv/paedo men than women and my boys get sent in the ladies. My 12 yr old boy has only been going in men’s for past yr, he’s now old enough to know about pervs and my 7yr old still goes in the ladies and will do until he is aware of pervs/paedos

Paedo’s/pervs will go to great lengths to be around children alone that is another fact! There’s nothing in my comment that’s offensive, set up a unisex toilet cubicle in between men’s and ladies but a grown up dick being in the ladies is wrong

It's perfectly reasonable to be fearful of potential predators looking to exploit children.

"

Oh so did I lol we never had a television etc but they grew up knowing being touched without permission was wrong in every way without having to be specific as to gender or paedophilia per se ... they also grew up with hobbies where everything was mixed and unisex is normal and usual, not thinking anyone is bad just what is wrong without details being necessary I suppose

Ignore the transgender issue and ask yourself: "Could a man sneak into women's public loos and assault a woman or a girl."

What steps does society need to take to reduce this risk?

As well as Jessica, there are several examples of this, including a male prisoner who identified as female to get moved into a female prison.

He/she r*ped his female cellmate on day one - her account is harrowing.

Yes its rare. But don't be silly, murder is rare,as are lots of crimes, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't take them seriously.

All this talk of toilets

There should be a unisex and family toilet as well as a disabled, male and female. If a male has a young daughter where is he taking her as I wouldn’t like the idea of a little girl or even boy going in a male or female area. The world’s a fucked up place so parents should be on guard at all times

Theoretically you are right about toilets but I guess a lot of places don't see the issues. Maybe children could be taken by parents to the disabled toilet but that's not addressing a perceived problem.

People are talking about unisex toilets without actually knowing what they're talking about

The unisex toilets places are talking about putting in place are individual cubicles, you know like the toilet in your house, for anyone to use not group toilets like womens/mens.

It's sometimes fucking impossible to have some alone time with a sani bin an some lube and dressing all womanly like makes a it easier to sneak in than my first few attempts dressed as Dracula .

Normally great times that were only ever ruined by the sounds of a great big dump and rapid spraying of Charlie or some other fetid parfum from the other cubicle.

Now I have to worry people will think I'm some kid bothering paedophilic pansy as well .

It’s the biased comments and lack of respect for each other that’s not right. People so quick to judge when they have no understanding of the world we live in. It’s not nice to be singled out for being who you want to be! Treat people how you wish to be treated, if someone is nice to me then I’m going to be nice to them- simple!
