I am curious about how people deal with messages. Personally if I receive a message I like I will reply to it as soon as it is convenient. If I don’t I will instantly delete but I will not leave a message read for ages. I feel like that is letting people hang as they may be hoping for a reply.

What are your thoughts on this?

Your best option OP is to delete sent messages as soon as you send them then you don’t know if they’ve been read, deleted or just playing along with you

Harsh...but probably fair, LOL!

OP - perhaps they are also just replying "as soon as it's convenient" - some people have a LOT of messages to wade through! Guess the onus is always on the sender to make it a message that makes the recipient want to reply quickly!!

I never realised I was ment to delete messages after I've read them? I'm too lazy to do that. ?? The only time I do delete them is when someone says "Hi" or "How are you?" Or similar on it. To me that's just an introduction to the message, and they haven't bothered to write the message. They're straight to the delete button, un-opened. ??

Well the point of the post was to find out if anyone else has any particular opinions about message etiquette. Not a single reply was in response to that. It’s interesting to see the way attitudes have shifted over the last few years.

It is somewhat unsurprising to see the attitudes displayed in the responses. This place has slid backwards and is little more than a shadow of its former self. There are still some fantastic people on here though they tend to keep themselves very quiet nowadays.

If anyone wants to join this conversation they are more than welcome to weigh in.

You asked in your OP how people dealt with messages and a few made mention of how they did.

People are people and some will behave how you would wish them to, others will not. Look at it as a useful filter for whether you will get on with that person/ people in the flesh.

I reply as soon as I can. If I'm reading forums or don't have much time then messages get left longer. I always reply to first messages because I think it's rude not to.

I think if a message is read but no reply it means they aren't interested.

Probably easier to do what you say if you're a guy. I always reply to respectful messages. Not so easy for the ladies who often receive loads of them so it's not really practical for them.

We ensure that we answer all of our messages though it does take the pair of us to keep on top of it. If someone has made an effort we will reciprocate but if all we get is a “hi” or “nice tits” they’ll only get a one word response

How is wanting people to be respectful 'entitlement'? Is that how low people have sunk these days? They should expect to be ignored. Fuck that.

Women do sometimes start these types of threads but only rarely because most don't ever bother sending mails, they just wait for their inbox to fill up.

Silence isn't no thanks. "No thanks" is.

I think it’s about volume - as a single guy I imagine it’s somewhat lower and more manageable, than for single women or couples. We get 100s of bollox messages, or hi messages where their profile equally contains no information or pics - apart from when they really annoy us and we have the time to point out how shit their mail and attitude was, we generally just delete them, and the really bad ones we make the extra effort to block them, in hope that will get them off here spoiling it for the good single guys. The good ones we respond to, even if to say no thanks.

Agree if we had to reply to every “hi how are you?” We’d never have the time to reply to the good messages from people who read our profile.
