How important is hygiene to you?

Let's just pretend you have a meet with someone from here. He have been chatting for ages and really clicked here and on cam. Ye met in a coffee shop with the intention of going somewhere more private afterwards. So the person shows up as planned. From afar you cant believe your luck. Even more handsome in person. Well dressed. With in ten minutes of having sat down it is apparent the person hadn't showered. What do you do?

‘Let’s have a shower together!’

Honestly, I have no idea as I’ve never been in that situation

Manchester (she/her)

Flee. Things like make-up, cologne etc aren't going to bother me, but basic hygiene is, well, basic. (if I had an existing relationship with this person I might suggest a shower together might be fun, if it's an unusual lapse, but for a new person I don't have a base of good will to start with) To add insult to injury, I tend to put in greater effort on a first meet, and I'd feel bothered by meeting someone with my full face of make-up and meticulously shaved when they haven't even done something I consider semi-mandatory for taking the bins out.

It's not a deal breaker per se, but I do see things like "I know what soap is" on profiles here, and to be honest that puts me off too. I'm not sure why. It should go without saying?

If its just a social, just get to the end of it and then not make any plans to see them again.

If its a social with a view to play, then make my excuses and cut it short.

There's no excuse for poor personal hygiene.

This actually happened to me.

He arrived in filthy clothes, scuffy stubbled face and dirty unkempt hair. Despite his photo showing a clean well kept man.

Just to add I love beards but he was scruffy.

To matter more disgusting, he chose to eat a cake but kept spitting his crumbs at me! They kept landing on my dress and cleavage. I felt ill having to watch him mouth open slobbering whilst talking at the same time.

Never have I drank my latte as quickly as I did that day. I thanked him for turning up then left. Messaged later on he's not for me and wished him well.

I'm too polite and being a single woman meeting alone, I thought it safer to not piss him off. However, yes I did actually want to leave soon as I saw him. I felt so uncomfortable. This is one reason why I insist on socials first.

That doesn't sound pleasant in the slightest.

Suppose in this heat people aren't going to be hugely fresh especially if you've travelled.

He was local, so walked to Costa. As I always do when meeting, I travelled to him at my expense.

It wasn't a resent meet and as such was in the new year time so cold/mild weather.

He really had no excuses to look unwashed. Definitely no excuses to eat and speak at the same, resulting in spitting his food over me.

I’d shower just before leaving...and moreso in this weather.

No excuses not to turn up being fresh...even a lunchtime social whilst at work, I’d take something so I could freshen up in the toilets.

Lack of hygiene means they haven’t made an effort...

personal hygiene is very important! it shows what kind of person he is. if he mentions he was in a hurry and didn't have time for one, then at least he sounds like he cares. but if they sit there and act like everything is ok, then that tells me showers are not a priority. that i am not a priority. i find an excuse and leave.

No there was no excuse then, photo's unfortunetly don't tell the whole story to a person do they.

No unfortunately not . Hopefully one day someone will invent scratch and sniff photos! Haha.

Scratch n sniff...that's hilarious

Reminds me of this scratch and sniff t-shirts for children back in the 70s.

OP: that’s the benefit of socials!"

I read through this thread and was not expecting someone to say hygiene wasn’t important to them....

I should change my name to Nostradamus

"How important is hygiene to you?

Let's just pretend you have a meet with someone from here. He have been chatting for ages and really clicked here and on cam. Ye met in a coffee shop with the intention of going somewhere more private afterwards. So the person shows up as planned. From afar you cant believe your luck. Even more handsome in person. Well dressed. With in ten minutes of having sat down it is apparent the person hadn't showered. What do you do? "

Go into boots and buy some nose plugs...... Hes gorgeous right you said it....... Or and it's an ingenious thing saw one the other day a portable one person shower....... Sorted

If someone looks scruffy how do you know that they are actually dirty? I am never clean shaven as I keep a small beard or at very least some stubble, my hair is messed up just out of bed look and my dress sense is casual / smart casual, I shower every day and brush my teeth twice or sometimes three times a day but people would still look at me and say im a scruff?

What that is crazy! They could be the smartest, sexiest, handsome and have a gsoh but if they stink and can tell they’ve not showered or at least had a wash they can keep away from me! I wouldn’t show up for a meet without get cleaned up so I’d expect the other party to do the same

"I had a meet with someone (not off this site) and his oral hygiene was somewhat lacking. Clearly hadn't flossed ever

Throughout the whole meal, just sat thinking "there's no way I could kiss him"

Same happened to me years ago, we got on really well, had a great laugh but the plaque and state of his teeth were shocking.

I just couldn’t."

I can’t believe the amount of people who seemingly don’t floss or even brush their teeth!

I'd ask if he had come straight from work or if there was a deodorant shortage in his village.

Different definition of scruffy. Almost anyone can tell the difference between styled like that (which is a good look usually) and unkempt/ unwashed. And not just because of the smell. Clean people smell like toiletries or toothpaste/ mouthwash usually. Maybe a very small amount of musk on top permitted in this sort of weather. Dirty people... don't, including if they spray stuff over the top to try to cover it up.

"This actually happened to me.

That doesn't sound pleasant in the slightest.

Oh I remember those. My t-shirt had a strawberry on it. Not sure I’d want boy bits on there

Beautiful ladies on here, just common sense and respect to come washed and clean to a meet.

Why would you not show that respect to the person you are meeting.

I have to say that how someone smells plays a big part in my reaction to them. Hygiene is, as so many here have rightly said, just basic. And not that difficult

It’s just disgusting and no need for it really- just makes you wonder what they’re like in their everyday life! Unless I’m cleaning up I get changed if I end up wearing my coffee or get anything down my clothes and wouldn’t go out in scruffs or dirty clothes

"If they can’t be bothered to be clean and fresh then what else can’t they be bothered with? It would be a “no” from me."

This. I don't expect formal wear or a ball gown but zero excuse for being manky.

And big no to bad teeth too. Met a few folks for a social I've had to turn down due to grotty nashers

I have to say, it's just not acceptable and even less so as it is the first impression the person you're meeting has of you.

I have to say it is all down to a lack of awareness and if someone isn't aware, can you be bothered to educate them?

I'm relieved to hear that you thought of your safety first and foremost so left without reason so as not to provoke a situation.

Not standing in judgement but more of an assessment - if someone isn't willing to put the effort in, chances are the sex will be lacking in effort also. Not that it would get to that...

In this lifestyle good hygiene is essential, we always shower or bath before sex and our lovers do as well.
