holiday dates And Burglars

Is it wise telling thousands of people you don't know the dates of when most people's houses will be empty when they are on holiday and would you let the police look through your veri's to see if you had known burglars amongst them although not sure how they could do this if atall possible. Ps. Fortunately we have family that come to stay when we are away to look after the house.

People put the dates of when they are awayin the forum like the Spain forum.

What if a wealthy couple advertised that they were off to Spain in August between the dates of July 1st to July the 15th so if anyone else who swings is there on those dates they want to meet up and play. While you are away someone burgled you. That's what I meant

I don't think it's wise to give away too much personal information on social media. I've seen spectacular indiscretion on here and other social sites that give away places of work, identity of family members, holiday dates and exact location etc. You have no control over who is reading this information and most of us would never consider putting this stuff in a newspaper or a shop window.

We don't invite people to our home or tell anyone our address so police wouldn't need access to the people we meet for the reasons you describe.

That's makes a lot of sense. I don't use any of the social media sites, but I know people do say when they're going on holiday or even out for the day

We were burgled whilst on holiday. We think it was someone local and we done a stupid thing by closing our curtains, we never close our curtains, so it would look different But we only ever tell our neighbour, who puts wheely bins out etc We're careful never to tell anyone else, but it can still happen.

I think it's about risk management. There are certain people who need to know you're away and will also know where you live that's unavoidable. Increase the amount of people who know and you increase the risk of one of those people being an opportunist burglar.

If it is a risk you're happy to take by all means take it.

We are fine whilst we are away and we have the local neighbourhood watch women (nosy neighbour) living opposite our house who doesn't miss a thing. It is one of the reasons why we don't accommodate, oh and still having our daughter living at home

I hear what you are saying,at the moment some are broadcasting that they are way now on fab. You look at their veri's with home meets on there. Odds will say that people with sticky fingers will be on here. So its not a very good idea really.
