I'm lost....

Hi, everyone

I tried a couple of times to go on the chat, but I never manage to get into a conversation. I don't really know what to say in order to break the ice, expecially when everybody's already talking to each other.

Moreover, it's hard to find people who are not far from me... Even in the northern room, it seems that everyone comes from Newcastle (no offense to people from there!! )

Any advice about how to survive in the chat rooms?

Tell them you're a virgin and ask them to perv your profile

Errmm, when you say virgin... You mean, virgin on the chat right?

I don't need anyone to perv my profile : it is nice as it is and I received a lot of help from people here already.

It's more I don't know how to jump into the water in the chat (hard to catch the attention of 180 people!!)

Just say hello.

I know, you probably tried, but persistance is the key.

just chuck into the convo that you are new, and you should find that someone will notice (eventually), and chat to you, from there, its just a matter of saying hi whenever they are in.

Thats how it works in the Welsh rooms, cant speak for the others as I dont go in there.

Just announce you are a newbie in the General chatroom and that your cam is on (showing face).

You will soon have people chatting to you

I gave up trying. I was never sure who was talking to who and never felt I was actually in a conversation other than a few soundbites. I have had conversations in the forums.

Perseverance is the key.

I remember being overwhelmed by it all when first going into the chat-rooms. I only said hello or goodbye for weeks but watched and learned.

just stick at it.

i was lost to begin with but i always come online and say good evening folks. and if someone says hi i say hi back. you then get used to certain people and next time your in and you notice them on say hi to them when you go in.

now as soon as i sign on i get about 10 folk that say hi before i can even say evening lol

i use the scottish room as thats where im from but im sure the others are the same.

i just talk random stuff til someone answer me or i comment on what someone else says and you will find more people will start to involve you in their chats

hope that helps babe xx

I never use the chat because i can't keep up with it, it's like 200 people shouting at once and they aren't all watching football together, so i get lost!

that said... i am well good one on one chat, we can't do that on here though can we?

Jaqs has said she will chat with you so maybe go into chat together and she can hold your hand as it were. I had people who did this for me and I've done it for newbies too. xx

The northern room is manc heavy...though actually where people come from matters little.

So here is Auntie Jems handy analogy for new chat users

You move to a new village(there tend to be around 800 people in chat, village sized). One evening you decide to visit the local pub.The regulars are in there chatting, you nod and order a pint(remember im northumbrian a nod is the equivalent of an effusive hug )Talk to the barman, maybe join in a bit of banter about the fortune of the local football team, then leave.

When you get home do you

A.think, bunch of cliquey twunts, hardly stopped their conversation to talk to me

or

B.think, seems ok,will pop back in there, get to know people.

Yes chat can be hard at first, but you dont need to break the ice,the conversation is ongoing.Join in,follow colours(it really helps) and give it more than one go.

Nah, not really. I just try to get as much information as possible in order to avoid mistakes.... Who knows how many good times I will miss because I don't do the things right (and how many some other people will miss as well )

And the forum is a place I feel a bit more confident, tbh
