Self conscious ....

I really struggle with my weight. Like, REALLY struggle. I’m a massive comfort eater. Always have been. Anyway. I put on weight, lose it, and then put it back on again. Last time it was 10 stone. Yes, seriously. So I made the decision to PAY for gastric surgery (not NHS before anyone judges). It’s worked, but because I’ve lost so much weight in such a short space of time, I’ve been left with a lot of skin. I’m not a shy or self conscious person usually. I’m of the opinion that you either take me as I am, or don’t bother. But I’m so conscious of my skin now. I look in the mirror and I’m disgusted. I have a partner, but even he has made comments. He is nothing serious and I know it won’t last forever. And I worry about how I deal with it with potential future partners. Any advice?

Bless you

Is there surgery to get some of the skin removed or tucked. ...

I'm guessing if it's skin and not fat excerising won't fix it ..

Be comfortable with yourself before you meet anyone. It's not fair on them if you have hang ups

Did you lose 10 stone? X

I’ve lost 9 stone of it up to now. Which was easy because I literally couldn’t eat. Weight loss has slowed right down now, so the hard work begins. There’s so many reasons I had the surgery that I’m not even going to get into, but it was the best decision I’ve ever made. I guess my point is, I don’t want to get naked and have someone be horrified by how I look! I don’t think it’s as bad as I’m making out, but it’s bad enough lol. I go to the gym often, but like you say, it’s skin, not fat, so it won’t fix it. And after my surgery, I’m skint, so I have no money for a tummy tuck

I had a gastric bypass last year and I've lost 9 stone too. Confidence is through the roof but looking in the mirror feels like a horrible reality check. I totally feel your pain, will be paying for skin surgery once I've finished paying the loan back for the bypass! It's so easy to tuck the skin away and look "normal" on the outside buthe I worry too that once naked the horrible truth will be revealed.

U must feel a whole lot better in yourself though. Healthier, less wealthy, and off the pies! Just that positive outlook will be attractive, and you're probably right about being more bothered by it yourself than anyone else would be. If you're like me you'd get the skin removal surgery and then be paranoid about the scars!

The gym can be a curse. Sheena comes with me to the gym amd does good too. But she is really good on certain machines and likes to do them more. Lot of the lads get a shock when they see what weight she lifts.

100kg lat pull downs

200kg leg press.

She does cardio too and yes she is a big lass. But it ain't all fat.

She has her food on a 7" plate eats properly but they weight doesn't want to move

Funcouple. Sounds like Sheena has done well. But you can still eat healthily and not lose.

Might be worth tracking her calories and taking measurements instead .

Is there an NHS "Weight Intervention" service in your area which can give emotional and psychological support?

Hi there. My thoughts are have you considered any kind of therapy to tackle your self esteem and confidence issues?

If someone chooses to comfort eat there are usually underlying reasons behind it.

If someone is with someone who makes "comments" about their appearance again that indicates low self esteem.

You have done really well to lose a huge amount of weight, so own that, and I fully understand that you now have different body hang ups. But as someone else said, if you have surgery to reduce the skin then would the next issue be that your scars or your tits or whatever cos the real bit that needs fixing in probably in your head.

Hug of support to you and good luck x
