Seems like many people get awkward with compliments.

Some people dont know how to give them, others dont know how to take them.

Is it a dying art?

There will always be people who don't know how to give or receive compliments. I don't see it as a dying art, just unchanging.

On here you get suspicious of compliments, as you suspect the giver is just after a fuck.. lol

Men give compliments on a sex site, to influence their chances of a fuck ?

No way

It's true! I suspect I'm not "the most sexiest person they've ever seen".

Although I am pretty damn hot...

I love compliments, receiving and giving them.

I think I look like a dog most of the time but it still makes me smile when someone pays me a compliment about my appearance. Or tells me that I've done my job well, or whatever.

And it's beautiful seeing someone else's reaction to a compliment paid.

I find I receive a similar possibly higher number of compliments now compared to say 40 years ago. Unless you count "oi, oi luv you don't get many of them to the pound" shouted from a white van as a compliment...that happens rather less frequently nowadays

I give more compliments too. I decided one day that if I thought someone was kind or helpful for instance it would be a good idea to compliment them on that instead of just thinking it.

I think it takes time to feel comfortable in yourself in order to accept compliments graciously. I love giving and receiving them xx

It does indeed. The horrifyingly rapid passage of years does have some benefits

Yes it does. I agree.

Fab compliments which are largely like Fab straight notwithstanding I wish people would start believing the good things people say about them rather than the one odd bad thing

My first answer reflected that I understood you were talking about real life. Some people will always be reluctant to give or receive compliments. I see it as something that will always be, not a dying art.

My next comment was a direct jibe to another poster, as a joke

I will give compliments if justly deserved but never believe any given to me, either on here or in the real world.

I don't take compliments graciously. I didn't get many growing up, so have no idea how to take them (it's normally suspiciously, because I don't believe it).

I also don't know how to give compliments, because I just never hung around a crowd that did that).

If someone compliments you smile and say "thank you".

Actually, etiquette is that you compliment back. Just saying thank you sounds a bit hollow.

Similarly, do other people get a bit miffed at a lack of compliments?

I mean on Fab if I send a photo and someone doesn't say I look nice or doesn't comment on it at all, but still wants to chat/meet. That definitely tends to cost people a few points in my estimation of them.

Or like, I spend two hours or more getting ready for a date, and when I turn up I don't even get a "You look nice".

It's not that I think I look especially great or anything, but yeah it does miff me a bit. Maybe I'm just over sensitive.

It’s not an art that’s dying, it’s people that are so paranoid about the content of the compliment or the connotation of answering.

Has anybody else noticed the age of most the new members,

Well that's what I do. I don't compliment someone just because they say something nice about me and I don't expect it in reverse.
