To me swinging is something quite particular. It's what you find in the swinging clubs and what goes on on Fab most of the time. It's slap and tickle mainly focused on sex acts with strangers who you maybe meet for a social and share some "banter" with.

I class myself as more of a lover in the continental vein. I like to seduce those I meet and am happy to meet them regularly and possibly exclusively. I prefer my "socials" to be more like flirtatious dates. I'm really not focused on sex acts at all. But on finding sexy souls I'm attracted to and then just letting things naturally heat up into a passionate whirl from there. This, of course, could be classified as swinging. But in reality it's so at odds with the prevailing culture of swinging in the UK that I really don't feel comfortable identifying with that word.

Why am I on here if I don't consider myself a swinger? Take a quick look at some of the gorgeously sexy women and couples on here seeking passionate erotic encounters. It's not rocket science mate

I find most people think they are a swinger coz they are on here but yet they only meet other singles for one on one and would never dream of being in a swinging relationship. It’s time for another game of ‘spot the logical fallacy’ on the Fab forum. Today’s contestant is Lieutenant. Are you an American ‘loo’-tenant or a British ‘leff’-tenant?

Let’s examine Lieutenant’s argument: he considers himself a swinger, so he signed up here. If he stops swinging, he will leave. Therefore, everyone here is a swinger.

First of all it takes a Fab-favourite approach that everyone else’s situation must be the same as your situation. Instant fail.

So it takes a mix of the fallacy of composition (what is true for a part must be true for the whole), and affirming the consequent (a swinger would sign up for Fab, you have signed up to Fab therefore you are a swinger) which has the double whammy of starting with false assumptions (circular reasoning). It’s an intoxicating cocktail of poor logic. (There are also dashes of epistemic fallacy, hasty generalisation and mind projection fallacy.)

The other day I was hungry, so I went to Tesco to buy food. Is it fair to assume that everyone in Tesco was hungry? Answers on a postcard...

Even if we were to take away the fairly basic (but nevertheless fundamental) error’s in Lieutenant’s argument, and assume that anyone in this thread who has said they are not a swinger is deluded, let’s just look at other things we know to be true:

The young boys who sign up for a giggle, are they swingers?

The sad wankers who sign up to trawl for wanking material, are they swingers?

The ones who get the thrill of thinking about meeting someone for sex but bottle it every time?

What about the journalists who come digging for details for their latest story? Are THEY swingers?

Interesting thread. I posted a while back that in my opinion singles looking for nsa singles aren't swingers. If that were the case just about every teen on the pull on a Saturday night would be a 'swinger'.

I was of course reviled at the time (like that bothers me), and yet here we have a whole bunch of single Fabbers (rightfully) resisting the OP's claim that they are all swingers by default just because they're on Fab.

The OP is of course wrong, and the posters saying "I'm single and just here for the sex and friendship" are the ones being accurate and honest.

Can't escape label much as we might sometimes like to. My two cents worth is that swinging is a mindset.

Lots of couples say that you can't be a swinger unless you are part of a couple. I would say that is only partly true.

If you are single but would never indulge in a site like this if you had a partner, if just the thought of swinging with them puts your back up then no you are not a swinger. No shame either way its just about being true to yourself.
