anyone have any experience of neon wands i'm thinking of buying one and was wondering if it was worth doing so

Violet wands are enormous fun, but you need a reputable source as an inadequate separation of the mains and secondary high voltage circuitry is less than amusing.

I would always recommend using a residual current device socket as a safety measure.

There's plenty of information if you use your browser to search for Wicked Wand (it's an American site & manufacturer).

Generally speaking, avoid anything on eBay as the wands are Eastern European or Chinese and the quality of build is very variable.

PM if you want a UK based supplier of restored and refurbished Wands; prices from ~£400 upwards but you do get some interesting electrodes.
