Anyone know of any Midlands hotels that you can access the rooms without passing reception?

We are planning on hosting a group meet but don't want to set any tongues wagging

Most real hotels rather than the chain motel type ones, don't need the keycard hassle to get to the rooms.

Trick I guess is picking a hotel busy enough that its not obvious you have lots of people visiting, and staggering arrival times.

I`ve noticed that the Travelodge in Mansfield is only accessible by key card, regardless of who`s on the reception. Think it`s a trend Travelodge are using more. This means that your meets either have to go in with you or you have to go down to reception to let them in when they arrive.

Ramada hotel near Earlsdon in Coventry is quite good for meets as you dont have to go through reception at all.

I attended a meet in Crewe - think it was a Travelodge, not sure. We had to keep dropping a key card out of the window for the next couple of guys to come in. Then one of them couldn't find it in the dark ...

I always figure that individuals walking in one at a time - especially if they know the number of the room they're going to - are never going to attract much attention.

And let's face it if they do you're not breaking any laws. What's the worst that can happen?

Any hotel where you don't walk past reception as you enter is probably monitored from reception by CCTV anyway.

It really makes no difference.

Theres a hotel in dudley that you can book by the hour, you do have to walk past rception tho

But seeing as they booking rooms by the hour they know what they being booked for so wouldnt bat a eye lid at you walking past with half a dozen guys lol

The Ibis chain have some where reception is in a seperate building and the rooms are on two floors accessable by an outside stair case. A bit like a motel.

Have a look at the one in Birmingham, Holloway Circus and Coventry South. I think there are one or two others but can't remember where

We think you are getting overly worried. If you book a city centre hotel at weekend they are usually filled with people looking for a fun night out and they are used to the coming and going of revellers so a few people going up to rooms is normal and the recption wont care in most places.

Dont worry....have fun.

DON'T book an etap - they're really funny about unregistered visitors! But the travelodge on the A34 in walsall has two entrances. If you use the one at the rear you can walk straight to the lift without passing the desk. Its in need of modernisation but is fine if basic. One advantage of being a little outdated is that they still use keys not keycards. A word of warning though, lots of receptions allow daytime visitors but get snotty later in the evening - think they worry that someone is trying to get a free sleep!

Holiday Inn Express in Oldbury is a good one! You can access the rooms without passing reception no problem.
