I'm very cautious about my sexual health (probably leading the wrong lifestyle considering how paranoid I am).

Safe sex is a must for me... However I am aware that even condom use for vaginal / anal penetration only reduces any risk rather than eliminates it.

I had my last sexual health check up on Wednesday and to be fair she didn't help my fear by saying 'new evidence suggests sti's are transmitted orally' and to use condoms and dams. Like it was news! She knew about my lifestyle and I think was just being over cautious.

As for men performing oral on me... I'm not a fan anyway but i'd certainly encourage the use of a dam.

I used to be quite carefree about blow jobs and want to have that attitude again. I suppose like most people have advised here it's the risk vs enjoyment debate I must have with myself. But it's comforting to hear facts about reduced risks and stories of not getting any sti orally.

I reduce the risk by not letting a guy finish in my mouth. It doesn't reduce it totally but less chance of transmitting oral sti by doing so. Try sucking with a condom and see how it feels. I can't personally do it. Make sure you get tested 3 monthly too. Stis received orally don't cause as many issues either.

I was at clinic for my test this week and this was discussed. The nurse commented that there is risk in everything we do. Her opinion, was that sucking a cock to completion does have risk, but very much lower than receiving anal sex. I have only once sucked a cock with a condom on. Not for me. I was told by a nurse that if I was going to do it and I wanted to lower the risk as much as possible, don’t let them complete and use Listerine after, never do it when you have a sore in your mouth, do not smoke or eat before or for a while after, and only do it with people you trust.
