Had my first "cinq à sept" this week... (the French term "five to seven" - reference to the time for extra-marital affairs).

It was a hotel meet after work. It wasn't Paris but still felt sophisticated as I was in my work-dress and heels (but changed from tights to hold-ups before leaving the office). I felt like I was in a sinful chocolate advert as he unzipped my dress...

So are extra-marital affairs more accepted in France they even have a slang for it? Apparently Miterrand's wife and mistress were both at his funeral. If so why are the French more open about these realities? And why are we Brits so hung-up about sex?

Well,English has several slang terms for extra marital affairs but maybe not so poetic as the French terms.

Isn't it just a stereotype that the French are more passionate than the English?

Maybe British history (of deference to royalty and church) has something to do with it. The French beheaded their aristocracy while,this side of the channel,they managed to keep the serfs downtrodden. Maybe that sense of liberation was felt throughout French society and culture.
