Dom v Rough?

Thoughts please everyone.

I have been chatting to a woman about what she liked (as you do), and in the conversation it twigged that we had different definitions of what Dom and Rough meant.

Without loading bias at the start, I will only say she seemed to equate Dom with Rough, with little distinction. I don’t agree. They can be together, or completely separate.

Is Rough a form of Dom’ing? And does a Dom need to be rough?

Interested in others opinions here, especially if you an experienced Dom or Sub.

Thanks.

Domination is predominantly mind and role play - later in the session - advancing into the physical side of domination.

This should be a smooth well thought out transition, with nothing rough about it.

Theres so much more to it than swinging a cane, flogger or paddle.

Contrary to popular belief, the sub has a lot of control over the situation, most of which is a pre-arranged scenario, combined with a safe word etc.

Rough sex - on the other hand - is most times one sided, instigated by one partner and with little or no forethought or regard for the other partners satisfaction and by its very nature over quite quickly.

Notice I said "most times".

Just as there are many people who think swinging = having a shag arranged via the internet …. There are plenty of people who get confused about what a Dom is.

I have spoken to a number of people who claim to be a Dom, though further discussion soon leads more to a conclusion they are just a selfish twat.

Glasgow - ish ;-)

I know two Dom's & they are both highly intelligent gentlemen who command respect and not at all rough, firm mentally yes, but its not about being rough, unless thats part of the requirement of the particular role play.

My 2p worth

We are a dom/sub couple but not 24/7 and roughness does not come into being dom. The dom side is much more a mind roleplay and can often involve no physical contact.

Rough sex is a different issue all together but can still be fun.

I adore assertive dominant men...and agree that roughsex and sub/Dom relationships are totally different.....the cerebral part of the s/D being the vital part...I have to agree that men who declare themselves as Dom and want to be called master tend to be a bit on the inadequate side...truely Dom men are just that way naturally...alpha males..and appreciate the devotion of thier subs and treat them with care....just my slant on things...having been in a taken in hand relation ship for 5 years.. ..xx

Thanks for the great replies everyone especially TraceandRic, and LOL at Polo’s comment.

It certainly seems a consensus in line with my thoughts, that’s why I was a little surprised originally.

Sadistic little napoleons aren’t Dom’s, they’re just irritating! (No names )LOL
