How do you want to die?

Really. Do you want to die a peaceful or a violent death? Do you want to know you are dying. How long in advance would you like to know?

Bit of a strange one but relevant all the same

I’ve always had a great fear of death via drowning or burning.... both would be terribly scary/painful and you would most probably be aware.

I think I’d prefer to die in my sleep pain free and OLD

I once worked with a chap who died whilst having sex in a car on the Moors, parked up with his mistress in the middle of the night, heart attack! The funeral was very awkward, his widow very resentful and hadn’t a clue he was having an affair! There was no wake, service at the Crem then home.

I have a similar tale. The husband died out of the borough and the wife refused to pay to get his body back.

His children paid for it. The atmosphere at the funeral was awful!

Dignitas, when I find out that I have terminal cancer due to either the cigarettes, sunbeds or pork pies.

Big fuck-off party for everyone I know, followed by some quiet time with my nearest and dearest, a needle prick and darkness.

Then I want my cremated remains packing into fireworks and have the wake as a giant bonfire and fireworks display with live music.

I am NOT going out quietly.

This poem changed my view of death, perhaps not the violence but I like the sentiment, that you live life to the full up until the very end.

Let me die a youngman's death

not a clean and inbetween

the sheets holywater death

not a famous-last-words

peaceful out of breath death

When I'm 73

and in constant good tumour

may I be mown down at dawn

by a bright red sports car

on my way home

from an allnight party

Or when I'm 91

with silver hair

and sitting in a barber's chair

may rival gangsers

with hamfisted tommyguns burst in

and give me a short back and insides

Or when I'm 104

and banned from the Cavern

may my mistress

catching me in bed with her daughter

and fearing for her son

cut me up into little pieces

and throw away every piece but one

Let me die a youngman's death

not a free from sin tiptoe in

candle wax and waning death

not a curtains drawn by angels borne

'what a nice way to go' death

I have nearly drowned and on a different occasion, almost died from hyperthermia. Drowning was a little scary, but the hyperthermia was not bad at all, it was a bit like being d*unk! So if I had to choose how I would die, and in my sleep wasn't an option, I would go with the hyperthermia.

Very much the same as this. Must be awful to die like this knowing you're fighting for life but going to lose.

I'll settle for a quick heart attack in my mid 90's whilst my girlfriend is riding me reverse cowgirl style. Tough on her but I'll go with a hell of a smile on my face.

Don’t want to get too deep but I nearly died twice. Once from Hyperthermia (body over heating) after being poisoned by a drug dealer in Vietnam. Another time from anaphylaxis due to an unknown allergy.

Both totally different experiences, and equally terrifying. The only thing that goes through your mind is all the things you haven’t done and haven’t said to your family - then a huge regret and panic. Then a kind of delirious feeling, and when you’re at the brink there’s a sudden calm buzzing. It felt as if my body was vibrating and everything was peaceful.

I don’t mean to get too serious but yeah - after those experiences I’m not sure there is a way I’d like to die. I’d rather try and live a full life and ensure I’m happy at the point I finally pass

Is the light at the end of the tunnel true? Did you glimpse it? Did you panic inside or not? How does the brain deal with such an experience at the time? I’m just trying to understand as I’ve heard people say this before about NDE.

I think that your last sentence is a good way to think of it. A close relative of mine had a rare, untreatable cancer. She was lucky in that after a fairly unpleasant procedure she had almost nine months of relatively pain free life. Although she was in her mid 80s she did things, talked to people, put her affairs in order and her family were able to spend quality time with her. She wasn't afraid when she died and it was very peaceful. It's easy to forget to live life well and enjoy your family but I think it makes it easier to grieve too.

Yes I went back and forth between panic and calm. I saw a lot of different things, lights, shapes, Infinite patterns like nothing I’ve seen in waking life... I actually wrote about it in depth for an NDE site (writinf helped me to get over it) and I have a link to it if you’d like to read it? Drop me a PM and I’ll find the link

Agree with the above. We have had our dogs put down when they were suffering and incontinent, a mercy for them which seems denied to humans because of religious fanaticism among our legislators and judiciary.

Someone even said on the radio recently "JC suffered and we all have to suffer too when we die". That's obscene!

Woody Allen said "I'm not frightened of death, I just don't want to be there when it happens." Sounds good to us!

"Think we should all be given the right to end things if we are terminally ill and there is nothing else that can be done.

You wouldn't put your pets through it so why do we insist on making people suffer needlesly?"

Totally agree

In my bed, after saying goodbye to my children and grandchildren, and letting them know I'm ready to go.

Cheshire

Very nearly killed on the firing ranges in the Army, another Squaddie’s rifle pointing in my direction, 7.62 round through the head without any warning, could be worse

If I was to kill myself, overdose of sleeping pills with a decent Whiskey, in the winter on a lovely hill with a view. Close enough to a road so my body would be easily found and not put anyone’s else life in danger.

Quickly and I'd preferably not know anything about it. I lost my dad just short of two years ago from lung cancer and watching him deteriorate in the last couple of weeks before he died was heartbreaking. Thankfully though he didn't suffer much and when the end came it was actually very peaceful.

So sorry to hear that. It’s terrible. I lost my mum around the same time as you lost your dad, she succumbed to dementia and it took her 6 weeks to die, she struggled to live and die

Thank you and sorry you've had to go through it too my dad was only 58, I'd always thought he'd have been around until well into his 80's and I feel robbed of the time we could have spent together.

58! Nooo that is so tragic! At least my mum was 83 when she passed so she had a life. Sorry again! Just live life to the full honey x

this sums it up - In my own bed, with a belly full of wine and a milf's mouth around my cock, at the age of eighty-ish.

I don't want to die.

I know I will die,everybody dies sometime,but that doesn't mean I want to die.

So I'm happy to remain ignorant in the knowledge of never knowing my demise

Would you drive right off the side of a bridge into some deep water James Bond style?

Give me a nice bit of Ischaemic Heart Disease. No warning, no pain just the heart stopping and not even being aware you've hit the floor.

Failing that I don;t want tp be alone and I don;t want to be scared

In a huge explosion I don't know about.

Every Monday morning when the Plymouth dockyard siren drill goes off I kind of expect it

So an unexpected one would be better for me ??
