Should the female pay or the male or halves? I met someone recently, paid for lunch then he wanted half for a hotel lol, needless to say it was just the lunch on the menu, your thoughts please to this newbie x

Maybe its my, Tom's, age and the fact I was always brought up to be a gentleman but I would not have allowed you to pay for lunch, however, I do know when I go out with my daughters they seem to get pretty annoyed if they invite me and I want to pay for it all, they generally insist on going halves which I agree to because it appears to be the way independant ladies want it.

In this case I think the tight fisted, mean bugger should have thanked you for treating him to lunch and paid for the hotel room.

the bill should be split into equal portions....ie into 3.....we often go out in large numbers and not always couples.....if 3 couples and 3 singles then its divided equally by the amount of bodies present....only seems fair.....as for the OP defo should have offered to go dutch

Reality: If a single guy is meeting, he should be expecting to end up with the bill, unless it's agreed before. If there's an offer to pay half he then has the choice to accept it, depends on circumstances.

I met a couple and paid for the meal/entertainment, they paid for the hotel and taxis. (All London central prices!)

If 'felt' fair and that's the crux of the matter.

Bit of a conundrum this one.

I think that if we were meeting a cpl, then its all halves down the line during the meet (meals, hotels etc), but travel costs are down to the individual couples.

As for singles, I think its a bit one sided in favour of the ladies, we would probably be happy to pay more towards the meeting with a female than with a male.

It should be a simple case of two adults agreeing beforehand regardless of gender and it makes no difference what is agreed as long as it's agreed beforehand. By this I mean I don't give two hoots who pays for what as long as both parties are happy with the arrangement.

It should NEVER be expected that the man picks up the tab just cos he IS a bloke. It's old ideas like this that don't die that keep many women financially dependent and keep womens wages low.

Now, im a mature student, he knew this, he has a full time job, me thinks he was taking the pee totally. Interesting subject!!

As an old-fashioned sort of guy, I do believe in paying for things, but it is nice when the lady offers to pay her way, If she wants to make a contribution then thats fine and depending on what's involved her offer might be accepted.

However, I do have to say that in these days of sexual equality, women do have to make up their mind!! They either want equality or not, and if they want it then they have to accept it right down the line!!

Guilty of the above I'm afraid. Until recently I have always expected to pay for everything, even insisting that we travel to their area for their comfort and safety - for a single female to meet us halfway has never seemed right to me and never will.

Lots of single females also have extra costs, baby sitters and.....removed as I have been assured I have been patronising......

It was not meant to be condescending, it comes naturally - I just see it as being considerate

Chauvinistic yes, as has been pointed out to me by Mrs ride on many occasions along with another female with an equally forceful personality.

We see it differently - Mrs ride is of the opinion that this is not a dating site and assures me that this is the 21st century and that there is no way this should be just expected - being a considered chap I choose not to disagree any longer.

Oh now NOTHING is simple. It is perfectly okay to pay for everything with good reason. If someone cannot come because the expense is prohibitive and another can afford to foot the bill ......that's FINE. I did say that as long as things are agreed before hand and everyone is happy then it's between no one but the concerned parties. I have paid for lunch when a gent has travelled ( nothing expensive ) but then I don't like being beholden to anyone.

Coz if thats your attitude generally then I's be suprised if you get any meets and the ones that you do would doubtless be with a certain type, which would then reinforce your attitude. Kinda a self fulfilling prophecy.

As for me. I'm always going to end up paying I've a 45 min journey before I even start traveling to a meet (and I always have to travel) I'll buy the icebreaker drinks and when itsbeen necessary paid for the Travelodge room. But an offer to go halfs is always appreciated and accepted. Its already beend said its a meet for sex not a relationship we all know what were going to a meet for.

Noooooo it's not 'off on a tangent' all part and parcel of the same thing.

Sometimes sexism , upbringng and manners get confused. We can all hold a door open for each other regardless of gender.

I was helped at the tip with heavy bags by some blokes who were laughing cos I couldn't lift them and get them over the rails. I was laughing too. There's no point in me denying that they had greater height, weight and muscle power. It WAS funny to watch me tottering like a mad ole tart. I was really glad they were there and nice people too. I can accept differences in everyone and see the benefits in using everyones skills, talents and strengths but there is NO way on this earth that I can see why a man should pay for a woman where both are similarly salaried.
