Crane hire cost for new hot tub

Hi all,

We are getting a hot tub but have a problem...

It needs to be craned over our house to where it's got to go.

Has anyone else had to do this?

Who did you use?

How much did it cost?

dont the company that you buy the hot tub from set all that up. would imagine so ..

do look out for a youtube clip.. not sure if it was a hot tub or pool craned over house .. was hilarious if it wasnt ur house,

the Hot tub company should be able to sort this but make sure you pay for a contract lift, that way they will deal with all the permits, lifting plan and the health and safety side of the lift

We used KAS Crane hire to move a tub, summerhouse and wooden gazebo over our house recently and they charged a standard £685 + Vat for a half day crane and driver hire.

it will prob cost you per lift so it might be a bit more than you paid for hot tub as you have to have a lifting coordinator which the lifting company will supply he will assess the lift and what crane you need if the crane blocks the road you might need to get permission off the council to close the road it can be a night mare or the cheapest option is to get it in quick on a sat morn before anyones awake and the council are off lol but seriously if you have a crane lift its quite a bit of a health and safety issue

its going to be very expensive, you need insurance,banksman,crane operator,reponsible person,you may have to block off the road so you need police there and you have to contact the local council to close the road.

Couple of grand easy possibly more than you paid for the tub !!!!

Google a local firm and ask them to come out and do a survey and a risk assessment

I got 3 cast iron lamp posts craned into my back garden and it cost me 100quid cash to the very nice man who owned the crane.

No permits, no nothing - just get the job sorted and forget about the H&S and the rest of the red tape/permission bollox associated with it.

A quick Saturday morning job, nobody about, as the say in the Nike Advert, 'Just do It'

Sorry Op that was meant to say £1685 + Vat....

KAS sent a three man crew, including the driver. There was no road closure as it is a Private Road and all it needed was a permit from the management company the house owners use.

They have their own insurance.

The log cabin and tub are costing around £6500 so far as it is. Looks like we'll be shopping around for a crane.

The company we are looking at getting the tub from don't offer crane service. We have already been in touch with them about it.

Always cheaper via backhanders

The problems arise if anything drops on your house, the pavement, or even worse, a passer by. Then it can get very expensive, or very legal! Not good to get banged up for that H&S "bollox"

I would look at other companies that offer the full service for you if your spending that much, sure there are companies out there that would love the business

try another company of hot tub/ cabin.. there are so many around at every garden centre these days. It shouldnt be up to you to sort out something so specialist.

we are on our 6th spa in 18 yrs and have it craned every time as we have a townhouse.we always have to pay .. make sure they have insurance and most importantly let your local council know as the street will have to be blocked off as the crane takes up the entire road. approx. £1500 per time . also note if it goes wrong .the tub thatis and needs to be replaced or repaired off site that is £1500 each way again so beware

Thats all fine except they wont be insured if anything happens, like the load breaks away and goes throiugh a roof or onto someones car, or, the operator hasn't put the feet/stabilizers down properly, goes through a mains pipe or pavement and the whole lot goes tits up ! . wont be a cheap job then , lol

technically no it doesn't..

it lifts and moves the load but swinging is not good..

very unstable and dare i say without being spat upon or called a 'jobsworth' all a bit dangerous and unsafe..

I have my own company moving machinery in factories and I drive cranes. I can tell you for a fact now, any crane company, and it would have to be a big mobile crane because of lifting over a house and having to jib so far out to get it in the back garden, any quote would have insurance and the proper people there. It would only need 2 people really. Best thing to do is to find your local crane hire, not ainscough or other big companies, go to the dept and spoke to the main person you'd get it quite cheaply tbh, offer to pay with cash but after they have told you how much first lol.
