Is it just me that’s noticed people seem to stay sexier for longer now?

I swear I’ve seen tons of women and men in the 50+ range that look sexy as hell and have better bodies then people my age.

What’s changed? Or have I always been naive and not noticed?

We're better nourished, better educated and no longer shackled by the convention that told us life was over at 40 and crimplene slacks with an elastic waist were the only option.

It helps that men aren’t working in mines and women chained to a household doing the cleaning all day. We have more leisure time than ever before and having fun keeps us young!

As you get older, you end up in the older bracked yourself. Inside I feel 21, outside I'm not.

21 year olds look too young but a 50 year old is only 24 in my world..

You got older??? Seriously though as you get older you still find the people who you found hot at 20 still hot but you do start appreciating older people as well.

As others have said, it's about better health education, combined with more opportunities. I think standards of living are also getting higher, which offers more lifestyle choice.

Also, we are a much more celebrity obsessed culture than 10 years ago, so we have more older role models, for better or worse, who have a carefully controlled social media presence and are always presented to us, the great unwashed, airbrushed to within an inch of their life to look great.

Ultimately though, whatever the reason, has to be a good thing that people are staying fitter and healthier for longer, because it leads to better quality of life.

It may be that as we mature, we notice things we didn't before. Suddenly, people we ignored are stunning. Our taste is more refined and less about fitting in with peers. We are free to like what and who we like unapologetically.

The standards of sexiness and health are always relative to the age. In other words, 60 year olds today may look better than 60 year olds of yesterday but so do 20 year olds and so it balances out that old age and youth are still greatly distinguishable despite the improvement in health and beauty and reducing ageing.

I'm not fitter but probably healthier (if that's possible) than I was in my 20's and 30's.

I was underweight and probably killing myself on a cellular level back then. If I didn't have arthritis I would be doing so many more physical activities. I can't even ride a bike

Far less people smoke now which prematurely ages anyway, and far more people are using gyms and keeping fit well past their 30's. Perhaps the internet has helped with all the diet and training advice on there, as well as the narcissism across all ages that social media has triggered.

As you get older you will find your liking for different age groups change.

However people do seem to be living longer .

So maybe a bit of both.

We have seen some very sexy 50+cples on here

You turned 30, that makes you officially on route to being old yourself, so desperation makes it appear that there is life after 50

A wise man once told me that the only thing good about getting older is that you fancy a wider age range of women! So true.

I still think in my thirties but my body has raced ahead so far even admin filter me out..

Totally agree. I see people from school and I swear they haven't aged. So many people getting facial tweaks and taking much better care of themselves in general. There's hundreds more treatments available now too x

I think it’s a combination of shows that put a lot of importance on appearance (mtv/reality tv etc) and the cosmetic industry. Cosmetic surgery, guys wearing make up, it seems to be the way it’s going. People seem to care more about their appearance now and gyms are very busy places. I agree with people looking after themselves but I find the whole cosmetic surgery thing a bit worrying

I agree.

The main thing I've noticed is that retired people are dressing better and younger. And far more women dye their hair a natural colour now.

I can't remember the last time I saw a purple rinse??

I think until recently there was an older person way of dressing, nowadays there's far more choice. The marketing people have cottoned on to the grey pound.

Mind you people still mutter about mutton dressed as lamb.

Interesting post, maybe looking thru sex goggles...we are statistically ageing, but also getting fatter & less fit as society polarises, so whilst one sees fewer 'old people' as I recall old people, the blue rinse/flat cap brigade, we are breeding a generation that may not outlive its parents...

Better healthcare , nutrition and exercise

Cosmetic surgery , performance enhancing drugs such as Viagra cialis , testosterone replacement for men . Ultimately it can just come down to good old genes

Certainly health and exercise play a part but also perception. When you're young someone who's over 40 can seem old ... it's only as you age that you notice your peers and become a little less critical of how someone looks so that imperfections are actually seen as attractive ...

I agree it also works in reverse. It's very rare that I find men under 35 attractive. I can appreciate that they look great but that's as far as it goes.

It's self respect and being in the lifestyle your choices and chances are enhanced by looking good and dressing well. Both of us still play competitive sports and our goal is now to emulate the 87 year old guy called Bernard on First Dates Hotel last night. He would put a few 20 somethings to shame with his fitness and vitality!

I was with a 22 year old female yesterday and I asked her how old she thought I looked. I was chuffed to bits when she said 45, that's 10 years off.

I do quite a lot of sport and try to workout a bit with weights and stuff. My one trouble is I have 56 year old bones inside my body and they sometimes feel like it to be honest. Luckily they don't show too much outside my skin at the moment

Computers, electron microscopes and gerontology have help people understand how the body works better.

Correcting mistakes, deliberate bad advice from large corporations have also helped keep people healthier.

It all depends what on how you train and what you put into your body.

Fueling your body right and exercising right will have a massive impact on your health and fitness over time.

I’m going to train forever. They’ll never be a day when I stop. I’ll still be hitting the gym squating and deadlifting in my 90s.

You can’t stop time but you can slow it’s effects.

Agreed, it’s crazy how people are more confident when older and technically in worse shape than they were, kids are full of self doubt. Time and experience seems to make people more confident in themselves
