Pointless Messaging

We messaged a lady yesterday who seemed Compatible, We received a reply that simply said "Hi"

We messaged back to start a conversation but it appears that is the end of the chat??

I'm confused, What is the point of that message?

If they weren't interested then I understand that they wouldn't reply but by messaging back you would assume that they were interested enough to find out more and to converse with us to see if it would go further?

Whats everyone's opinions?

I've had a one word response before like that. Put a good paragraph into a reply and get nothing to go on in a reply. Deleted and moved on!

changed their minds..busy..went off to do something else..i dont think anyone's opinion will make much difference...if they didnt reply, they didnt reply..no point obsessing over it.

Men often send me messages saying nice things about my pics. I often respond " Thanks for the compliment" but it doesn't mean I want to start chatting to them. I think her "hi" was just acknowledging that you had sent a nice message.

Never assume someone's interested just because they reply.

We reply to almost all our messages and we don't even do meets anymore.

Why do people automatically assume that because you replied to there message that you want sex with them?

Getting to know someone is through the art of conversation.That then tells you if your compatable and if that spark is there.If they bore you to tears then it's not meant to be x

That's not what you said in your opening post.

You said by answering you assumed they'd be interested in finding out more etc.

Maybe they're not interested in anything more than being polite.

Women are frequently criticised for ignoring messages. I suspect she's one of those who doesn't do this.

I don't think it means anything other than a friendly acknowledgement of your message.

Depends what you messaged in the first place sometime if I’m in a sarcastic more I’ll reply with a one word answer to a stupid question then don’t engage further! Childish but tickles me sometimes when I’m bored and sick of the relentless barrage of stupid questions

As the female half of the couple I would chat to someone to see if they were compatible without it meaning anything else.

Personally I wouldn't reply unless slightly interested in finding out about a potential partner.

Personally, we reply to almost everyone, even if it's just to point out that we don't do meets.

We all run our profiles differently.

So if, for example, a message is along the lines of complimenting our pictures, we would probably politely say ‘thank you’. But, assuming we aren’t interested, we keep the reply closed and probably wouldn’t respond to subsequent messages. But a reply is what people seem to want, so a reply is what we aim to give.

I ignore loads of single guys simply because it's apparent that they've done nothing but letched a couple of pics before firing off a naff one-liner.

"Hi" is traditionally an opener though rather than a closer. If I say "hi" it's because I would like to chat more. Yours would confuse me a bit too, OP.

Not to the point of worrying about it though. I'd just forget them and move on, and if they write back later then that's a bonus.

We have all people have about as much charisma as a wet flannel and its doesn't matter how hard you try to make conversation with them its all very one sided..

I find that annoying..if they don't want to chat why say Hi???

But then again if they don't reply at all I just think how rude they could at least say they aren't interested.

Sometimes it's just hard to take a hint I guess..if they say hi but nothing else and no other messages then whatever the reason..they obviously aren't interested and to be fair the women here get loads of messages so maybe said hi to wrong person in error?

I get lots of pointless messages from guys usually, Hi, how are you, hey etc. Then the ones complimenting me, which I thank them for but then they think I am interested.I guess it's just the nature of the site, delete and move on.

We've had our fair share of pointless messages, and we're at the point now where we don't even bother opening them, we simply delete them.
