Does anyone know of anywhere to learn shibari? But more importantly, from your experiences, is it worth it?

Go to your local (or nearest) rope jam, talk with others, and you will find some really lovely people who can give you advice on the best people to learn from.

Is it worth it? Maybe. There's intricacy and aesthetics, sensation and intimacy, but it requires care and patience and practise. Choose where that balance lies for you!

I guess the main concern lies in the time it takes to tie someone up. But I imagine there are ways to build up the suspense if you really take the time to learn it. You have to really know what you’re doing for sure! I will have a google for rope jam methinks then. I hope they’ve got patience! haha

Don't understand what you mean by is it worth it and building suspense. As someone who loves being tied then of course it's worth it for me. The feeling of being in a form of bondage is great and a much prefer the aesthetics of rope to other ways of being tied.

I love it when my hubby ties me, not because I'm restrained but I like the intimacy of his focus on me over time and I like how he or others then admire his work on me afterwards.

There are times that once tied it is then used as restraint when we play, but that's not usually the reason we start. It's normally just to do a pretty tie in some together time.

If you're only looking at shibari for restraint then it's prob the wrong thing. Yeah you can learn a few quick ties for quick restraint and yeah I prefer rope on my wrists to cuffs if we use a cross etc, but that's not really shibari.

Wow! This really resonated with me (him) and it is exactly why I have for years wanted to learn this. Would be great to know of such places where to learn in the Midlands (west), seems such an elusive club.

Paul from Xtasia has shown hubby how to suspend me, not there, a different event - so not sure what if anything the club offers. I don't know the area at all but I would recommend starting with asking Paul what's on or who to speak with.

I should have rephrased my first post. As someone completely new to the subject, I have no idea what to expect. When I ask “is it worth it”, I was really wondering what pleasure was derived from it and your answer seems to sum it up really well. All i can do at the moment is admire other people’s ropework and wonder. I am intrigued!

Go onto FL and look up local rope groups, and then get yourself along to one of their meets.

I went along needing to be tied up, because it's very soothing for me, but ended up learning to tie and I love it, even though I'm just starting out x

I apparently am pretty good at it, though I've never had any tuition.

Started with an ex, used scarves to all 4 corners of the bed.. then I brought rope and away I wen't..

The mrs, having watched me do it and of course being the subject is pretty good too.. but still needs a little guidance.

We find our pics put alot of people off though, tying her up seems to mean I beat the shit out of her?!?

Though any such action would warrant a similar response in our world

Btw for anyone looking to aquire some rope, the coloured cotton stuff off fleabay is fine, 3 for a tenner

Stretches abit over time but easily cut/re melted

For the morr authentic shibari look.. jute rope from the range. About £16 cheaper than the same stuff from the likes of lovehoney...

And don't forget to have a knife/scissors handy if your starting out!

Never put it around the neck either.. ever

I would suggest not rushing to buy rope and only buy if you know you want to continue with it. Also try the different types as the choice of rope to use is personal. I have different types that I don't use.

I tie Male and females. At the weekend I did a nice hip harness ending with cock and ball bondage. It looked hot. There’s a pic on my profile of it and some of the other rope I’ve done (profile hidden until this evening though)

You may also want to consider the very infrequent Eastbourne Peer Rope. The person who runs that also runs Peer Rope Sutton.

Also if you are south coast Sussex look up South Coast Shibari which is near Brighton.

If you are more adventurous there is the Gatwick Play Munch.
