Catfishing ....

Over this last month have had loads of messages from fabbers telling me that they have been chatting / catfished by others using my pics on other sites (the list is endless)

I have taken my pics down and started adding my name on them to try to combat this

Really pisses me off that sad losers would do this

Anyone else having this atm ?

Not on here, but a colleague told me he'd seen me on a dating site & was going to 'like' me for a giggle, but then decided I might take it they wrong way.

I'd never used that site before & the pics used had been taken off Facebook!

I wish I could delete Facebook but I use it for work, I've several pages on there, fitness stuff, cycling club & groups that I'm admin on.

I coordinate regional events & FB is the perfect medium to reach the masses.

But I no longer post stuff on my personal page.

I do 'check in' for work related matters or events.

Follow a few pages that interest me, but I've clamped down on my private stuff.

It's horrible isn't it.

I think loads of people can't distinguish between what's personal to someone e.g. their photo on social media and what's not e.g. a model's image in a magazine.

What really amazes me is the number of people who happily post numerous pictures of their children on social media

The privacy settings for some sites might not allow it but you could always have a go at Google reverse images of your own pictures.

I have heard of this many times before, I don't know the best way to protect ourselves from this, short of not having any pictures loaded.

Adding a watermark is a good idea but it's not foolproof, as of course it can be cropped out if enough of the picture is showing behind it.

I’ve seen someone on hot pics here and later the same pics were on a well known image hosting site. The worst part about it was they included personal details ie name and location. I messaged the member on here to alert them to it but sadly they never read my message

I've reverse searched all my images a few times, & now watermark 'sign' all my pics... Another great bit of forum advice I was given

I read an article the other day that if your are logged into Facebook as I am 24/7 (because I’m rubbish with remembering passwords) then it actually monitors anything you you look at on the net...hence why adverts come up “relevant” to what you was looking at online

...mostly porn I’m guessing lol

I think it really is just to obtain pics of others

From what I have found out crazy as it seems it’s guys using my pics to chat to other guys to get pictures of them !

This will always happen on sites like this. They lift pics from elsewhere and pretend to be that person. Google reverse search helps along with some common sense. It's pretty sad tbh.

Same with the sharing wife/gf pics. Guaranteed your just being sent some random woman's pics off a site like this or another one.

I was told a rather worrying thing the other day, in the small print of the terms and conditions of a number of apps, Snapchat definitely being one, by accepting the t &c’s you grant them access to your phone.

Photos , contacts , browsing history.... everything

Yes I have it every now and again. Usually a friend of the person who’s using my photo says I’ve stolen the photo and using it as mine. I immediately tell them to check out another profile of mine on another site and check the date on the photo. It’s a pain in the ass. I now as you said put my name across the photos. It’s very sad some do this to pretend to be something they are not

Limit your public face pics and if you can crop them so it doesn't show the whole of your face

This will at least go some way to limiting there use

Also put a watermark across it so it can't be photos hopped into other images

Also limit all public pics and switch to friends only

Don't give out your number or you can be traced through it in some cases

Same goes for email addresses

Use a false name

Never give any real details

All this of course only applies if you give a monkeys lol

But trolls do use this site for both picture stealing and tormenting people

Sad fact but a fact it is
