Viagra can now be bought over the counter with no prescription

Men will no longer require a prescription to obtain the impotence drug Viagra and will instead be able to buy it over the counter at pharmacies.

The decision by the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency follows a public consultation.

It will be up to pharmacists to judge whether men over the age of 18 can safely be sold the little blue pills.

Good, it'll save the NHS a lot of pointless conversations with GP appointments that could be used for more important matters

Whilst I get what you are saying, for those that genuinely need it, I'd say it pretty important to them.

"will be interesting to see what they are going to charge for it"

Actually it will be from next Spring and one paper reports:

"A four-pack of Viagra Connect will cost around £19.99, while an eight-pack will set you back £34.99."

Presumeably the generic version should also be available which may be cheaper.

One newspaper article reads . . .

another reads . . .

'Sales are also to be limited to a box of eight 50mg pills of sildenafil - the generic name of Viagra. Such a pack currently costs the NHS £2.09, but the price may rise without a prescription'

You do know that there are plenty of medical conditions that prevent a man from being able to get an erection? There are also mental illnesses that prevent men from getting erections too - including PTSD and similar.

It's not an insult if a man can't get an erection, it's an indication that something might be wrong. Hell, it might just be an indication that he's not quite feeling it. Or perhaps he's nervous and therefore is overthinking it. Or any number of reasons.

The only insult here is the one you just made towards thousands of men.

The license granted is for one specific form of patented Viagra and the cost will be comparable to that charged by the cheapest of the current online UK pharmacies.

Pharmacists will be able to refuse to offer this drug and to ask whatever questions they need to to ensure you are safe to use it.

I suspect the majority of people will still buy their supplies online where bulk purchasing makes them cheaper.

Viagra doesn't work unless there is sexual desire. It doesnt give instant stiffy, and has varying effects. I see it as no different to tobacco, alcohol, or any other chemical humans take to affect their physical sensation.

What a limited argument to put forward. I don't wish ill of anyone so only hope none of your future partners ever have a medical condition that requires them to ask one of the most embarrassing questions one can ask of a GP....I would prefer to think your actual argument related to those who will undoubtedly just buy and take it to see what effect it has....

This is a good thing in my opinion a lot of guys can have problems at times some because of medical or health issues, being able to buy it over the counter without having to go to a gp will be a relief to those that might find it difficult to talk to a doctor about it. not at all ridiculous and I imagine it won’t be a case of you can just walk up and buy it like paracetamol - we’ve not been given the guidelines yet but I imagine like other POM ( prescription only medicines) to P ( pharmacy medicines) there will be some sort of questionnaire to see if suitable - can cause problems with blood pressure etc and people with the those sort of problems would still be referred to their Dr

"If you need viagra to get it hard or stay hard then its a insult to your partner x

The only insult here is the one you just made towards thousands of men."

Just to get some facts correct, viagra and similar drugs eg cialis which is longer acting, does not resolve impotentence. If the man is incapable of getting an erection then there is not much that can be done. These drugs act on the chemicals in the body that cause the etection to go away. For example if a man feels nervous that might happen. Nerves are very common for men in a group sex situations where there is huge pressure to perform. It is a medical fact that as men get older they become less reliable with their elections. I have personally notice a difference in potency with partners who have been over 40 compared to under 40. No all - plenty of men maintain potency until much older. But I can assure the forum that, for example, a 50 year old man will not be able to get an erection on demand the way an 18 year old can. The lady who believes that the need for these drugs is an insult to ones partners clearly does not understand the aging process on etrctile function.

"This is a good thing in my opinion a lot of guys can have problems at times some because of medical or health issues, being able to buy it over the counter without having to go to a gp will be a relief to those that might find it difficult to talk to a doctor about it. I think a lot of men will benefit from it being available over the counter. "

They will still have to have a consultation with the pharmacist because it is a very dangerous drug if you are already taking certain other prescribed drugs so it’s not going to be a case of simply picking a packet up off the shelf and going to the till.

A man could be too embarrassed to mention this to his partner?! His partner might think he was always hard for her and unknowingly think it’s a great compliment!

I believe Dr Fox is the cheapest online, and will also do you do an online prescription.

They are legitimate company as far as I am aware. sinderfil is even cheaper than Viagra, and I believe is exactly the same product just without the brand name.

Lloyd’s pharmacy will do a prescription with an on-line doctor, but it’s not cheap. But arguably better than using valuable NHS resources.

"An absolute fortune i should think... The NHS masks the true cost of it. Medicine is massively expensive.

One newspaper article reads . . .

'A four-pack of Viagra Connect will cost around £19.99, while an eight-pack will set you back £34.99'

another reads . . .

'Sales are also to be limited to a box of eight 50mg pills of sildenafil - the generic name of Viagra. Such a pack currently costs the NHS £2.09, but the price may rise without a prescription'

I dont know where this pricing comes from but currently i pay £60 for 8 100mg from a pharmacy on an nhs prescription "

Are you buying branded Viagra?

I pay less than a tenner for 8 100mg sildenafil, local chemist. you need to have a chat with your doctor about going generic, i did as soon as Pfizer lost sole licencing. And stay away from Boots, they're expensive.

As many as 50% of men suffer from erectile dysfunction at some point in their life. In the past it was widely accepted that the majority if those were psychological issues, that attitude is changing.

As to the trail of thought that ED is a waste of NHS resources? gents you have a 1 in 2 chance of finding out, ladies imagine if your cunt sealed up and your tits dissapeared and that might give you an idea what it feels like!

Yes, I was one of the people who commented on NHS resources. Let me clarify myself. The reason we have used these drugs is, for us personally, more of a luxury than a medical need, and we prefer not to through the NHS for what would be to us a luxury. This is by no means making a judgement of those people who have their own very good reasons for obtaining their medication on the NHS.

For those who it's not a medical condition it’s more likely to be an factor of the normal aging process, as opposed to lack of desire. A medical condition causing total impotence, eg spinal cord injury, can't be corrected with viagra type drugs.

Imagine a guy who he sells it to takes one and dies because he has a contraindication to taking it ? I expect there would be knock on the door from the old bill because if you know about this then many others will know too. Also it’s defrauding the NHS which I would guess is another criminal act .

Are you being intentionally dense in the head??

A lot of men need that pill for various reasons. They may have medical issues that cause them not to be able to stay hard. Think before you write such utter shit.

Also FYI it was used as a heart medication first the effects on a man were a side effect.

Did my opinion hit a soft spot lol

My bf doesn't need a helping chemical to get hard over me so no insecurities here at all lol

Stop taking it so hard it was just my view on it that's all lol x "

Your bf could be taking viagra without your knowledge; you wouldn't know. And that's like saying menopause is an insult to your partner or needing lube or needing to have a good diet and exercise. By the way, you're clueless as to how the drug works; apparently it wouldn't work if there was no sexual desire/arousal. It doesn't make you hard without arousal. These guys don't have a desire problem, they have a medical condition. Lucky for you, you don't need to use viagra to be such an unnecessarily rockhard dick.

Thats a ridiculous thing to say. Lots of men have medical issues which affect them which have nothing whatsoever to do with the desirability of their partners.

Medical issues are tottaly fine and that's what viagra is for but there's a massive trend to take it just to last longer or get it hard because of the state there in

To me that's a insult to there partner x "

That wasn’t what you said before you stuck your foot right in it.

I personally served 22 years in the Army and for the past 10 years I have needed help in that department. I always felt less of a man as a result of it and was ashamed. However, after a six week program with them at Combat Stress I learned that my PTSD is very likely to be the underlying cause of that particular issue. I and many more are grateful for that little blue pill as it helps with that symptom.....just a pity there isn’t a magic pill for the flashbacks, nightmares and survivors guilt to name but a few.

My suggestion would be to engage your brain before applying your fingers to the keyboard.

Former ex used to use and abuse his prescription silendafil and tadalafil. He had no medical issues, other than being a prolific liar and cheat. Therefore suffering from a “guilty cock syndrome” and struggled with performance at home and elsewhere. Idiots like him shouldn’t be wasting GP’s time. However for many men, understandably, having a working set of tools makes them feel like men. If there is a genuine medical reason for erectile dysfunction, then I fully agree, these little blue helpers should be available on the NHS as non working bits (male or female) lead to further and deeper issues......

Viagra doesn't just help a man get an erection but it makes an erection stiffer which results in more pleasure for the lady. Often men who can't usually repeat can after taking a blue pill. I don't see this as solely for people with ED.
