I've wondered about that! Like Sydney university is the hotspot for stealing photos and using them in some bizarre alternative degree course they're doing! Are they known for this? And have you seen some of the pics that people are worried about them stealing??? Sure lots of people add that disclaimer cos they see other people have done it. But why specifically Sydney university? The mystery continues...

I guess it has something to do with a research wing at Sydney university about the Swinging Lifestyle... not sure completely. Well, I think it is not entirely about pic collectors in the university.. lol!

Looking forward to expert advice.

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

The site itself says its useless so I have no idea why people keep putting it on.

I like the profiles where they have been constructive with it. The one on Mrlicks profile is especially funny.

Newcastle and Gateshead

they are absolutely rubbish... and some people have spun them to take the mickey (i have one on mine as well)

anyway.. from the sites FAQ

We've noticed a legal disclaimer paragraph that some people have on their profiles. Should we have one too? What are they about? Do they do any good?

The "legal disclaimer" is pointless nonsense and all does is take up extra space on our servers. Please remove it if you have it on your profile. If you're worried about privacy please set your account to be hidden from non-registered users on your privacy page (this also hides it from search engines but may take a week or two to drop out of search) and remove the notice (and encourage others to do likewise).

Common sense advice would be NOT to put any information on your profile (here, or on any such site) that could identify you or that you don't want to become public! So for your own benefit, don't post phone numbers, real names or email / instant message addresses on your profile that people might see or "Google".

Some people may put non-identifying pics on their public profile but keep face pics private or for friends, for example.

What I cannot understand about those people who place the Sydney University disclaimer on their Profiles, is that if if your lifestyle choice was "outed" by that educational establishment, would you actually then go through all the public "routes", resultant publicity etc., to protect your "privacy"?

I think the answer would be a two letter word starting with N

I have posted about this so many times.

It was a social experiment that started in Adult Match Maker in the early 2000's. It was to see how many people were gullible enough to copy the disclaimer to their own profiles. Like any Internet Virus or Work, it quickly spread to Adult Friend Finder and many other sites.

Sydney University has no interest in swingers profiles or photos. Doesn't harvest them and has not desire to really look. There is no research being done, otherwise it's been going on for nearly 20 years.

However, to prove social manipulation, google searches are done to consolidate the number of swingers that paste the disclaimer on their profile. Many profiles are indexed by search sites.

Over 15 years, its' been easy to map the propagation and stupidity of people to add things to their profile that they never queried and simply put on because some else did.

But like when a company says 'Sorry we can't tell you because of the data protection act' - ask them if they've read it! Most haven't and it's nonsense.

Strangely my Ex has the disclaimer on her profile and SHE went to Sydney University! She knows better! Specially as we use to run one of the first every swingers web sites more than 15 years ago.

*shakes head*

Get rid of the disclaimer, it's only making your profiles EASY to find via google.

I'm not even going to explain how to search using a paraphrase from the disclaimer and any series of common sex words to locate people, profiles and pictures.

Why make it easy for people?

As the above messages will show, it's not a deterrent in any shape or form. It just shows whoever put it there has blindly copied the text from somewhere else without any understanding of it or thought about the whole thing.

Why Sydney himself doesn't simply change his name, then no one would know when he was looking. Besides, I am sure that his surname is fake

How would you call people who think that a chocolate knife can be a deterrent?

Even funnier are the ones that have put the fake Facebook disclaimer on their site, which was irrelevant on Facebook and even more irrelevant on fabs when it mentions Facebook, lol.

This one does get me. It very clearly states Facebook is a publicly traded entity in the text so how blind stupid does someone have to be to paste it on here???

Then again it also mentions US commercial law and of all things, the Rome Statute!!! I wonder if any of them have ever looked up the Rome Statute?
