Mirena coil

Wife has had one inserted to help control her heavy period causing her to be anemic at times not helped by fibroid's.

Since having it fitted her sex drive has certainly tripled. Before this she was a once a week woman and in recent years has become less inclined for full on sex and would rather me wank off over her.

Now in just 4 weeks she has become a new woman and wants it three or four times a week.

Now what suits one wont suit another but ladies and gents if your partner is suffering encourage them to get help for them as it really can help you improve.

What?

You're encouraging men whose partners have a low sex drive, to get the coil fitted?

Please tell me I'm wrong lol

I had the mirena coil fitted and was in pain with heavy bleeding for 3 months!! Did absolutely nothing for my sex drive except knock it on the head all together!!

I'm really glad your wife has found it useful.

It will be due to her now not feeling tired all the time from the anemia and being out of pain that has improved her sex drive. Nothing really to do with the mirena coil itself.

Good luck and I hope it continues to work for her.

I agree with what you say though. Friends of mine suffer with similar things and feel they just have to put up with it.

My wife had it fitted 3 years ago and sex has become really painful for her. Even getting turned on has her in agony. And when she orgasams that it, she’s laid up for at least 3 days in a serious amount of pain.

Still waiting for the gynaecologist to get back to her about it

I found it worked great for me too, such a shame it doesn't suit everyone.

I no longer have very heavy, painful periods. In fact mine are now very light, almost nothing there and only last a couple of days.

I was seriously anaemic which left me very tired. I'm now in much better overall health and as a consequence my sex drive sky rocketed too

If you're sure its the mirena causing this and she's unhappy about it suggest she goes to her gp and has it removed. It takes seconds.

I've just got my second one. First one was great as I didn't bleed at all for the first few years, then light bleeds now and again. This time I've had 2 heavyish bleeds and I'm just finishing my third which started a week after the second. Hope it evens out soon

She has requested this but they are just fobbing her off to the gynaecologist department. And they are useless. She haven’t seen anyone from there for nearly 9 months now. She wants a hysterectomy. I’ve had the snip and she’s been sterilised but because of her age, 43, they are reluctant to do it because they said we may want more children. Don’t think so.

But that’s the state of the Welsh NHS

Try sexual health clinic instead they're usually better. There's been a lot on various forum I'm on about GP's refusing to remove coils, apparently it's influenced by them getting some sort of bonus if they're fitted providing women keep them in for the requisite time. Not how it should be

Hiding in the shadows

I had my first fitted 11yrs ago, after suffering with fibroids & periods that would leave me bed bound for the first 24/36hrs.

I would also have the most horrendous mood swings. In the few days prior to coming on, I would either be a screaming loon or a sobbing wreck.

My skin & hair would also be so greasy & sweaty, producing an awful odour.

The coil, sounds dramatic, but literally changed my life, definitely saved my sanity!

Did it make me horny though? No.

I was totaly celebrate at the time & sex wasn't even something I gave another thought.

It is. She used to be so active sexually but now we’re lucky to have sex once a month because of the pain. It’s not nice for her at all

My dad once asked - we both suffer a different condition that causes pain but only occasionally, and we both get migraines. But his are a different cause. I described what I went through EVERY MONTH at that point (pre diagnoses and treatment) - he was a LOT more sympathetic each month after that as he could barely cope with the pain from the other thing max twice a year and I was dealing with this every other fortnight!

I've literally just got out of hospital as mine became infected and caused a serious pelvic infection.

I've been on an intravenous antibiotic drip for 4 days and have another 10 days worth of antibiotics to take at home.

Worst thing I ever did was have it fitted. I'm told what's happened to me is rare, but it's something to be aware of that it can happen

I don't think it's as rare as they make out. I'm on other more women dominated forum and there's quite a few women report coil problems AND difficulties in getting Drs to agree to remove.

When my gp fitted my first one about 13 years ago she did say they were reluctant to remove them due to the cost. I think a person's well being should come before cost though.

I'm on my second Mirena. I've had them for eight years. They have massively reduced my periods and alleviated other symptoms but have had little effect on my sex drive. That was affected far more (for the better) by leaving a relationship. But I thank the Mirena inventors for enabling me to sleep in a hotel bed without worrying that I'll wake up with the bed looking like I killed six people in it.

I had a good experience with the two I had. It's like all things though, if it works for you you'll recommend it and if it doesn't you won't.

No problem if it works for you, but for those whom it causes problems, they should be able to get them removed without a battle. Cost should not be a consideration and also based on what I've read on other forum there seems to be more resistance from male Drs than female to removal if its causing problems.

I have one and it's great but don't think it changed my sex drive.

This last couple of years I've found myself having to nag boyfriends for sex. I'm either rubbish so they can't be bothered or it's an age thing in my late 30s

I’ve always had a high sex drive but then I had one - I had to have it removed after 6 months as I couldn’t cope. The high sex drive was still there but it made me drier than the bloody Sahara desert haha. Since having it removed though everything is back to normal and I can enjoy my high sex drive again

I had one fitted but didn't like the side effects, so I had it removed after a year.

She needs to just ask her GP to remove it. They can't refuse.

I had a ridiculously high sex drive before handing mine put in 6 months ago to sort out some girly problems. My sex drive isn’t the same but think that’s stress shit and grief I’ve gone through since then. It would be more manageable if it stays as it is but I expect it’ll flare up soon enough and I’ll be as rampant as I was before.

I'm on my second, neither has had an effect on my sex drive but first time round I was doing nothing for months as I was in constant discomfort while it settled down.

I suspect there are other things to try first for lack of libido, as PP suggested if having one has helped with anaemia it's probably that that has improved things rather than the coil. Different people have very different experiences with the mirena, and I hear a lot of negative experiences.
