nope, always took them into the gents or disabled loo when they were toddlers.

stood outside ladies once they were strong enough to open the door themselves.

If daughter is too young to go on own I would say take into gents. After having a quick scoot around to see if anyone is in shouting a warning to other blokes to enable them to finish their business or vacate and come back afer the dad and daughter have been in and gone. I don't believe it's acceptable for an adult male to go into the ladies in this scenario. I would say the same for mother and son.

I think so, yes. If I was in the ladies and a man brought his daughter in I would be ok with it.

I was in the ladies recently when a woman brought her adult son with learning disabilities in. I was ok with that too.

The doors lock in public toilets, anything personal is done behind those doors.

I feel like it shouldn’t be a problem and in other coutries I have seen it. But I think most women in the UK would feel uncomfortable seeing a man in there and knowone should feel uncomfortable. It’s a hard one to commit a definite opinion too.

Absolutely not. You would risk an awful situation. Going into the ladies and into a closed cubicle with or without the kids. The implication is obvious that you would be at least spying on the neighbours.

Imagine a womans reaction - she walks in to see you coming out of the cubicle. She would be on her mobile to the police, before the child had time to follow you out!!

I doub't he's going to be getting his tackle out any peeing in the sink. Of course it's OK, it's far better than inflicting a gents Loos on a child. I wouldn't have a problem with it, it's not a changing room,its a loo.

Best choice in a no win situation.

I have been in a public loo, and standing at a wall mounted urinal, enjoying a pee, when I looked round to see a young girl watching from the side to get the best view she could. Dad had brought her in and he was washing his hands or something. She was just curious, but it is difficult!

I've cleaned a lot of toilets in various jobs over the years, and while there's no denying a lot of men seem to be incapable of pissing into a trough instead of all over the floor, I've always found ladies toilets to be considerably more rank than gents.

Oh, and generally speaking we don't all gather round trap 3 to watch little girls take a dump whenever their dads being them into a public toilet either, so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

Slightly off topic. - The non-gender specific toilets in the bars in the gay village are an education!

They can be fun too when associated with the consumtion of liberal quantities of alcohol. Definitely no place for a child though.

The nappy changing table is always in the disabled loo, presumably so that it doesn’t matter which gender is taking the child for a nappy change. Therefore that same principle can be applied to children who are no longer in nappies but still young enough to require an adult to go with them. That being said I do remember my dad taking by me into the gents changing rooms at the swimming pool when he took me swimming. There were men changing. I guess that would be considered a bad thing these days, but it didn’t seem a big deal at the time.

Maybe the ladies on here will confirm or deny, but I believe it is fairly common for women to "Hover" or even stand on the seat, rather than sit in a public loo.

Having followed a woman into a shared facility, I have witnessed first hand the lack of direction toward the hole in an unlifted seat!

But no, there isn't often pee on the floor. All over the seats, but not generally all over the floor.

Why couldn't he take her in the gents? It's like a mum taking her son in to the gents as he's a boy, but kids tend to go the toilet that the parent they're with identifies with. If they're not comfortable with it then there are the disabled/baby changing toilets they can use.

I have taken a friend’s son into the gents... but didn’t go all the way in. Just called out and hung around by the door and I asked him not to lock the door. He was about 12 but has learning problems. I just yelled I was coming in.

My daughter’s dad has taken her in the gents without drama. He’s also stood outside the women’s loo talking to her from the doorway.

I can’t see the issue to be honest.

I think it is okay, yes most certainly. Common sense must prevail. In the lady's we sit on the scrapper behind a locked door. In the gents they piss in a urinary in full view of others. Should small girls be exposed to the possibility of seeing a man's penis in a public loo...hell no. Safety of child must come first before indignant women. We have men cleaners in our local toilets. I don't see a problem with a man taking a daughter/granddaughter/ little sister/ ect into the lady's.

A little off topic but... I went to take my then 8 year old son into a ladies public toilet in a world famous toy shop in London. I was stopped at the door by an attendant and was told he had to go to the gents by himself!!!

There was no way that was happening.

I contacted the store after and was told that wasn't their policy, but it happened.

Family toilets are the way to go. One cubical like a disabled toilet but smaller.

Every human has the ability to be patient and if they are unable to hold their bladder than they would be using something to preven't that. This threat isnt about using facilities that are not for you but how you deal with taking young children into public toilets.

The disabled facility is not just for disabled people. It’s also for parents and carers to change nappies, as that is where the nappy change table is.

Are they really such dangerous places? Are we all,including our children,at such risk when we go in there?

Do we have any reliable data about what percentage of people go into public loos with any intention other than doing their private business and getting the hell out as quickly as possible with as little human interaction as possible?

How many dads would rather poke their own eyes out than go into the ladies under any circumstances? I suspect it's a lot.

How exactly is a child endangered by the possible sight of a penis being used for its most common non-sexual function? They've no doubt seen dad's or other family members before. It's this sort of hysteria that causes the need for the whole debate. Just take the kid to pee in whichever is convenient or appropriate for their age. If they're old enough to be weirded out by going to the "wrong' one, they're old enough to go on their own.

An ex partner of mine once told me a guy walked into the ladies however he stood at the entrance and asked loudly if anyone had objections to him bringing and assisting his daughter.

A lot of cultures never segregated toilets by gender. Degendered toilets are becoming more common in restaurants and other sem-public places. As long as they are cubicles and not urinals, what is the problem?

I've seen dads bring young daughters into the gets many times. Doesn't seem to be an issue. My mum took me to the ladies up until I was about 7 years old.

Exactly.

It amazes me sometimes that people on a swingers site can be so prissy. When my kids were young (I have one of each sex) I just took them in the gents. I don't think my daughter was traumatised by seeing men pissing. She'd seen me and her brother do it often enough.

I never would - far too pushy. I'd never take mine into mens loos either - generally filthy and with at least a few weirdos hanging around. Either a disabled loo or a potty in the back of the car if they're small enough. Failing that I'd rather go into shop and ask to use the staff loos. People are surprisingly helpful when it comes to little ones.

Are the people who are worried about men accompanying children the same people who are worried about trans people in bathrooms?

Maybe we should have one loo for people who are happy to just get on with things and another loo for people who seem to see danger lurking everywhere (except where the danger actually is) and seem to be afraid of their own shadows. This loo could have metal,detectors,full body searches (on the way in and on the way out) and CCTV in every cubicle.

This might reduce overcrowding and queues in the loo for people who just want to go to the loo without prying into everybody elses business.

Interesting how men can't be trusted to take a piss in a gents toilet without spontaneously transforming into a predatory paedophile, but having them cleaning a ladies is absolutely fine. Having been a parent for best part of 15 years we've never had a problem with this, when the boys were younger I would take them into the ladies with me, and Fred would have either taken the girls in with him to the gents or possibly the disabled loo. Lots of bars and restaurants have one set of unisex toilets and I think this is great, and the children don't bat an eyelid at this.

When I was younger my Dad used to take me swimming every week and I'd always go with him into the men's changing rooms, it was never an issue and I don't believe it had any negative impact on me either short or long term.

Some people really over think things and see problems where there are none.

Nobody batted an eyelid. Many countries never did segregate toilets by gender. 99.99% of people using public or hotel/restaurant bogs are just having a pee or poo. What is the big deal?

It depends on the situation.

Age of child, until very recently there was no nappy changing area in gents toilets. Then there is an age of dressing undressing and lifting onto the seat, followed by standing outside cubicle holding the door shut. Chances of having a cubicle available in the ladies is much higher. Then dad's can gradually back off further and further until stood outside waiting.

Reality was when my children needed the toilet stuff embarasment they went in the first one found. Most female toilets have cubicles with doors. So I don't really see the issue.

Being the dad of two young boys i can safely say when they turn to me and say "i need the toilet" the clock starts ticking. I would and have used the closest facilities(which have always been gents thankfully) but wouldn't hesitate if i had a girl to take her into the ladies if needs be.

When they have to go they HAVE TO GO a few disapproving looks vs a happy dry child..No contest.

It was never an issue, he'd always check, give a friendly warning "just bringing my daughter in"

Passed a Dad with three daughters on the way to a busy public toilet. He obviously wasn't comfortable entering the ladies so he asked would I mind escorting one while he waited outside with the other two. Unlikely a Mum would ask a man to do the same but possible option there.

Trains and aeroplanes are individual cubicles with lots of people around

Not the same as having mixed pubic toilets

I personally don't have a problem with this. A lot of public toilets will have male cleaners cleaning the ladies and lady cleaners cleaning the men's and there are always cubicles. I don't see the difference of a male cleaner or dad taking his dad into the ladies. You have to remember mens toilets don't have as many cubicles. I take my son into the ladies or will use a parent and toddler room if one is available. My husband has taken our daughter into the mens but she is at the age where no one is allowed to take her as she is 7 lol

Bit of a deviation from the topic at hand, I know, but if I can correct a misconception along the way...

Maybe the ladies on here will confirm or deny, but I believe it is fairly common for women to "Hover" or even stand on the seat, rather than sit in a public loo.

Having followed a woman into a shared facility, I have witnessed first hand the lack of direction toward the hole in an unlifted seat!

I avoid public toilet if possible.. I wouldn't dream of sitting on the seat! Always squat over bowl.. never miss though.. however I've seen disgusting mess in the women's toilets at gala bingo.. no. Children to blame in there I guess
