"I use both in equal measure (see what I did there ). I often use imperial when I'm baking because a lot of the recipes I use are too old to be in metric. When I'm sewing I use metric. When measuring cocks I use the "oh scale" Oh dear. Oh? Oh ok. Made me chuckle Oh my God! "

"Saying "I walked Kilometres today" doesn't have the same ring to it as "I walked miles today" I tend to mix my measurements depending on what I'm buying or doing. Some recipes use cups for quantities too." I get mad when a recipe uses cups because I have no idea of the equivalent and I'm too damn lazy to find out.

I don't mind what country we are talking about as long as the cups involved contain a hot beverage or a nice pair of boobs I can bake too

That's just plain wrong The UK government endorsed the metric system in 1965 before the EEC even existed. We've been gradually moving towards Standardisation ever since. You and I are of similar age and we were taught the metric system at school. I guess the old fashioned imperial system will hang around for another 50 years or so until our generation passes on.

"Plumbers still use both. Always have. Wood yours still sell 8ft sheets of wood and 2x4s. (Just examples). We never let go of our ways, just like driving on the left, we are stubborn. " Actually your point about driving on the left fits this thread. Because when a future government does bite the bullet and spend a fortune converting the road network to metric, that would be an ideal time for us to switching to driving on the right like the vast majority of the world

" It stems back to riding horses apparently, and passing in the left, your weapon is in your right hand in case of attack. But just like the older generation who refuse to let go, (banking cheque/inches etc). We refuse to adopt a new or argumentative, a better way of doing something.

I knew that we had the metric system but thought it was the EU that insisted we use metric in shops not the UK... I will continue to use mph and convert litres into gallons to work out how economical my car isn't...
